Star in the Night

It's not been kind, nor fair, nor clean. But put your eyes to the sky, and pick a star you see. Name it, take it. Hold it tight for me.

I'm sorry, my love,

For the way the world has been

To you, to me, and to all in between.

It's not been kind,

nor fair,

nor clean.

It likes to prey upon the weak.

But put your eyes to the sky

And pick a star you see

Name it, take it

Hold it tight for me.

You were as dim as this sky once

Dark and bitter with poison seeping through your teeth.

It's all that you'd known.

It was the only thing to eat.

Yet here you are now,

That star lighting up your eyes.

You shine like it

Even if the darkness still resides.

You don't believe me, I know.

You think my words are lies.

But you know as well as I,

That on this, I's rather die.

I don't like poison.

I hate how it feels.

How it sticks and pries and never truly heals.

I know the taste, I know the smell

I, too, was raised in toxic hell.

But... did you know?

Poison can chip and drip and dry

And fall away in due time.

From rust to dust,

It falls in line.

My love, my dear, you'll always shine

And this star you hold?

You've always been this bright.

It's in every

Laugh

And kiss

And crease of the eyes.

I know I'm not perfect.

I know you aren't either.

But what I do know,

Is that sometimes?

You need a believer.

I saw the spark hidden

Deep within your shell.

You hid it in the dark.

You protected it too well.

I saw it fighting.

I heard it yell

And my own star...

It resonated with yours.

It brought peace

Neither thought would be ours.

I don't know what's ahead of us.

I don't know if there will be strife.

But I assure you, my love

There has yet to be a day

Where I have regretted

Having you in my life.

the way this is written... feelings intertwined with the stars and night and darkness... so well done.
