Taking Off My Wings

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 23 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

I try to wear my angel wings every single day,

Float a little higher, breathe the softer way.

But some folks test the patience of a saint who’s running thin,

And I feel that holy shimmer turning into something else again.

Pre‑Chorus

I whisper peace and blessings while I count from one to ten,

But mercy gets a little shaky when the world starts closing in.

Chorus

I try to wear my angel wings every day of my life,

But sometimes I want to take them off and swing them like a warning light.

Not to hurt a soul, just to make the message clear,

That even gentle hearts have boundaries they hold dear.

I try to wear my angel wings, but Lord, some days are tight,

And I’m doing my best to stay in the light.

Verse 2

I practice grace and kindness like a vow I mean to keep,

But even angels get exhausted when the climb is getting steep.

I smile through the chaos, try to bless the ones who stray,

But sometimes I want to fold those wings and say what I can’t say.

Pre‑Chorus

I breathe in all the wisdom that the quiet hours bring,

But even holy patience has a limit to its swing.

Chorus

I try to wear my angel wings every day of my life,

But sometimes I want to take them off and wave them like a battle cry.

Not to start a war, just to draw a sacred line,

To say this heart is tender, but it’s also mine.

I try to wear my angel wings, but Lord, some days are tight,

And I’m doing my best to stay in the light.

Bridge

Maybe halos bend a little when the world gets loud,

Maybe even angels stumble trying to rise above the crowd.

Maybe grace is stronger when it’s honest, not polite,

And maybe love is fiercer when it’s choosing what is right.

Final Chorus

I try to wear my angel wings every day of my life,

But sometimes I want to take them off and hold them like a shield of light.

Not to strike a blow, just to guard the peace I’ve earned,

To keep the fire sacred and the lessons that I’ve learned.

I try to wear my angel wings, and even when they’re tight,

I’m still doing my best to stay in the light.
