Why is it that people can't be happy for you?
It seems that the higher you rise
You become a piñata for haters.
Instead of being happy for you
They want to be cruel and cutting
Minimize your accomplishments
Steal your joy.
But why?
Why is jealousy and envy such a natural reaction
from people that should be happy for you?
People that should celebrate your success with you
Instead trash talk behind your back.
They move into other circles and ghost you
But why?
Does your success remind them of their failures?
Does it remind them of opportunities missed?
Does it make them ashamed that they have squandered their time?
And rather than face their shortcomings and fix their problems,
they just target you with their pent-up venom.
Because the higher you rise,
puts you on the skyline
and then you become a piñata for haters.

My poetry is emotions put to paper. It is rough, raw, and sometimes poorly written. That's ok though because it is of me, by me, for me. But I share it because I'm certain that out there somewhere is someone else with festering pain that might find some small solace in my rough and tumble efforts. And at that moment, we will be kindred spirits, even if only fleetingly.

Pam this hit home, I am 74. So many times I see this happen. A person begins to rise up from where they were sitting and for some reason their best friend gets angry the other person got a raise or whatever. The friendship of 30 years just flushed into the toilet by the envious jealous friend.
Omggg, tell me about it! These people are everywhere. And they would make us feel bad for having accomplished something or feel guilty for being more successful than them. I just don't know what's the deal with these kinda people. They just suck the life out of us!
Ah, the haters...there are always going to be some. Sad but true. I guess just as they choose to hate, we can choose to love and rise above. Wonderfully written. Felt this one :)
