the sea she turned with a mighty wail

to toss the ship about her waves

the sailors bellowed for all to wake

lest they be brought to watery graves

Capt’n he called from his place at the wheel

desperation gripped at his throat

for water had slipped into the bilge

and planned to down this boat

“land she’s there” a sailor did just call

as light passed over the sea

it marked the path through stiff fog

to a safety for them to flee

its glow cast through the darkned night

light warm on the sailor’s soul

as the men turned the mass to catch the wind

to spar themselves from the ocean’s toll

the lantern burned to guide their ship

as the waves beat at the bow

the men did pray to Neptune’s mercy

as through the storm they did plow

the lighthouse stood on a mighty cliff

its lantern burning strong and bright

and the men who manned the tower watched

as the ocean drowned another ship as was her right
