The Shame of Minstrel Shows

An Ode To Black History Month

By Earl W. PearlPublished about 5 hours ago 1 min read

A man performed a black face act that wasn’t very nice

A minstrel show performer by the name of Thomas Rice

He ridiculed the Negroes since he viewed them second rate

His minstrel shows were vehicles for demonstrated hate

A comedy performance made to mock the nation’s Blacks

His shows became more popular with all his future acts

In time, some U.S. States would proudly flaunt its racial flaws

For just about a century they pushed segregation laws

These laws went by a name the U.S. nation came to know

A black faced Thomas Rice performed the character, Jim Crow
