To My First Love

A Poem of Self-love

By Samantha DarlingPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

When we met, I forgot my own name.

When we kissed, I felt like I was dancing among the stars.

With you, I had no fear.

I would cross oceans, walk for miles, climb the highest peaks if it meant seeing your face for just a moment.

I could be anything. Do anything with you.

I found a fire inside that I'd never known. I was brave.

When you left...

Excuse me, what I meant was every time you left, I thought you took my bravery with you.

I thought you were the source.

You were never the source. You were a spark but darling, a spark is nothing in a barren cave.

I home life. I home warmth. I home a passion and bravery that you could not handle.

To the boy who was too afraid to love me.

To the boy who wouldn't puddle jump for a girl who would've traversed oceans for him.

To the boy who saw a fire and was afraid of getting burned.

To a coward.

I know my name and I can still dance with the stars without you.
