Ups and Downs

a free verse poem

Feast or famine.

Deluge or drought.

The key to understanding

life, in general,

is to realize that

fate is not a real thing.

Aim the dart

and give it

your best shot.

.

One last thing -

everyone else

is trying their best,

just as you are.

Don’t worry about the splinter

in your brother’s eye

when there is likely

a beam in yours.

We all have ups and downs.

I remind myself of this often. We are all doing our best. And as for fate- it would be comforting, wouldnt it, to imagine it was preordained.
