we thought we knew everything,
the generation to beat generations,
but we never realized it would ache
just to stay in existence and survive.
there are so many who came before us,
the thrivers and the fighters of old—
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles—
but they didn’t realize we had to battle too.
we were the innovators and the creators,
the debaters and the influencers,
the technicians and the hackers—
each with a role to play in the war.
there are so many tides against us—
the corporations and the money mongers,
the lawmakers and the naysayers—
but we know we need to stand together.
we play the games and do the time,
bleed until we break beyond repair,
but we know the score against us
and just what may be required.
there are hopes and dreams at stake—
the livelihoods and the businesses,
the fervor and the forward motion—
but we won’t be able to do it all alone.
we shout to the clouds, on the streets,
in the parks, and in our homes—
wherever we can be heard and seen,
a rallying call for a new world to come.
