We Were Meant To Be Sisters

Villanelle with The Unnecessary Line

We were meant to be sisters;

Equal, supportive, two daughters of one mother and father.

We will never be safe from this war splinters.

*

Two halves not fitting each other; foreign whispers.

No one ever intended laughter to fill our parlour.

We were meant to be sisters.

*

You cannot undo things with gentle gesture twisters.

While one drowns in delusions of grandeur.

We will never be safe from this war splinters.

(Could you please calm down?)

*

Time showed things in mushrooming whiskers.

Shuttered quickly by your lies, plunged in lucre.

We were meant to be sisters.

*

We cannot rely on gentle gesture arrangers.

Our surroundings seem to drown in mediocre.

We will never be safe from this war splinters.

*

One might ask where we have hidden our wisdoms.

Partners in crime, predicting a double massacre.

We were meant to be sisters.

We will never be safe from this war splinters.
