Weep not for me as the sun begins to set

I chose my path as the new day dawned

I chose my path when it was bright

Though I saw the tiny fires begin to burn

In their slow and steady way

Burn to ash my dreams of yesterday.

-0-

Weep not for me as the dark begins to rise

I chose my path with open eyes

I chose the flowerless path paved in lies

Down which I strolled with head upheld

In my rigid, stubborn way

As I abandoned my dreams of yesterday.

-0-

Weep not for me as the light begins to fade

I chose my path under clear, blue skies

I chose my path, smooth-paved with hate

As the clouds began to gather

In their constant, rolling way

Soon with rain to drown my dreams of yesterday.

-0-

Weep not for me as the shadows begin to stretch

I chose my path when things were fair

I chose to break behind me the path build in yesteryear

Do not for me shed a tear

In the present times of fear

After I’ve abandoned the dreams that got me here.

-0-

Weep not for me…

I chose my path…

I chose my path…

Every time without delay

In my sightless, selfish way

I cast aside the dreams of yesterday.

I can't shake the way you made this foreboding and uncertain future seem so beautiful, like something to be embraced and not fears! Congrats in Top Story, my friend!! 🎉

Nice to read "Love is not only in the light, it deepens in the silence of the night. "Good night" is said in silence most of all."

Well-wrought! Reminds me of the Rush song, Freewill: "You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill"

How you make the current political situation sound beautiful I don’t know. This was stunning.

Imagining oneself as the misguided other is always illuminating. Nice work!

It is very sad. I interpreted the political to be a politician who is loosing all of their ideals in order to gain power. I think this is very sad because when I meet those who knew people of power in their youth I am always surprised by how principled and good they were. They have traded it all away for power.

  • This was so sad although I didn't get the political context. Loved your poem!

Impressive, I think we will all attribute the political nuance differently as was intended. The choosing of one’s own path now more than ever is critical but so is seeing the bigger picture.

  • Well written 👏
