Winning Poems by JoAnn Boorman
News flash
It's true! Punxsutawney Phil resigned
He said he hadn’t been designed
To be the national weatherman
He’s leaving town as fast as he can
Too much pressure to get it right
And feeling nervous in the limelight
After a long winter in hibernation
He’s forced to face the whole nation
Everyone’s eyes are looking at him
He’s wishing he’d spent time in the gym
He’s heading out and gone forever
The heck with shadows and the weather

NEWS FLASH!
Punxsutatwaney Phil has been found!
Rumors were floating all around
Reports had come from near and far
Some guy said he’d been seen driving a car
We knew that certainly was not true
To drive, one must always wear their shoes
I know that groundhogs for a fact
Won’t wear shoes because they clack
Whoops, I’m sorry, I am digressing
It’s just that thought was so refreshing
So Phil was reportedly seen at a resort in Vail
Standing on the skis, going at full sail
The mountains in Norway, the California dunes
On the stage at Woodstock, singing some tunes
Dipping his claws in the ocean at Monterey
Hanging with the rich and famous at play
Pink champagne, peanut butter on toast
He is living big, as in the sun, he did roast
It is all speculation; not one thing is true
He’s simply at home getting over the flu!

Jennifer Sawatzky—Hiding out in the Den
Transform this icky, gross snow
Into a warm, sunlit, glistening glow!!!
It was so dark, dank, and cold outside~
The groundhog grabbed its hide and went back inside!
Throw another few logs on the fires,
Warmth and coziness are the current desires!
Going back to hide inside the den,
Maybe start diggin' deep and writin’ again
These cold days won’t last for long,
When spring arrives, you'd better be strong!
The ground will soon be ready for tilling,
Planting seeds for the future by the willing!
~
Groundhog Day!
It’s Groundhog Day, even though snow is falling!
He’s hiding in his burrow, hopefully he hears our calling!
For some odd notion, we need him to tell us the season…
If he doesn’t see his shadow, we all know the reason…
How can one little furry creature hold such a power?
He must be orange and live in the trump tower...
Let’s hope this tiny little fellow doesn’t put us in our place,
I know I follow the weather, y’all can keep that race!!

Oh, I love this!! Y'all are off to a great start!!
I loved all these poems!
They were all great. How were you able to decide places for them. Nicole is right they would be great in children's stories. Good job.
These poems would be a great additive to a children's story. They are fun and seasonally appropriate.
such fun
Great poems with humor 🥰It must have been hard to choice who is was the winner. They are all great!
