Winters bite

The coolness of season learning

By Natasha CollazoPublished 4 months ago Updated 3 months ago 1 min read
Photo I captured as crows swarmed my house

Today I saw a flock of crows

swarming in preparation

for their winter bite.

The sky sagged,

as apocalyptic waves of screeching

rose hairs down my chin.

The black fowls of winter

swarm between the crisp of power lines.

It felt like an Alfred Hitchcock frame,

the world looking up.

Watching.

As wings darkened in the distance.

I stood as shadows flew

across the wooden fence.

Meanwhile, frost exhales its first breath.

Everything crunches,

the swingset creaks,

my ribs burn with moisture.

The ground, the air, my thoughts

scatter with the sky.

The coolness of season learning,

its tender bite closed its hand around me.

Wow this is so atmospheric Natasha and such a good interplay between the verse and your fantastic photo. Great to bring in the Hitchcock movie vie too. All felt like a dark cloak descending. Really well done
