You

you are worthless

don't you dare tell me that

you are deserving of love and adoration

because anyone with eyes can see

you don't radiate sweetness or affection

I refuse to lie and tell you

that you are a good and unique person

because I would like nothing more than to let you know

that you are the most foolish person on the planet

and you will never convince me

you are a bright light in a dark void

I reject your flawed opinions

that you are warmth and beauty in a cold cruel world

and whenever I see you I am thoroughly convinced

you wake up every day wondering

am I worthy of anything in this life?

Authors note: this is an inverse poem. Read both ways, top to bottom, then bottom to top.

Wow. This is so rad, I can’t even begin to grasp the level of planning that had to go into it to make it make sense both ways. I’m not going to try writing a reverse poem anytime soon. As awesome and moving as the effect is, I really don’t want the inevitable headache of trying to organize the words in two opposite directions. Hats off to you for being able to do it though, wow!

I like the contrast between the encouraging vs spiteful person, and how you make it flip so well on the reverse. Nicely done M 👏

Very clever indeed! I love how your inverse poem contains opposing viewpoints—one angry and vitriolic, the other kind and encouraging—almost like a conversation between two friends where one is suppprting the other through something 🥰

Oh this was good. Even the tone might be different. Aggression from the top, calmness from the bottom.

  • Insert "Not gonna lie, they had us in the first half..." meme here. Amazing!
