Zia On My Shoulder

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 2 hours ago 1 min read

verse 1

goodbye, new mexico, the door must close

but your sun still lingers in my bones

you held me when my house was cold

your mountains whispered, “you’re not alone”

verse 2

the ridge stood tall like mother’s spine

your warmth turned bruises into light

i walked through pain, but now i rise

with zia etched into my side

chorus

zia on my shoulder, fire in my skin

your love was shelter, now i begin

i’m leaving, yes, but i’m not gone

your healing made me strong

verse 3

the past is ash, the wind has blown

but i carry you in sacred tone

your silence taught me how to sing

your sun became my offering

chorus

zia on my shoulder, fire in my skin

your love was shelter, now i begin

i’m leaving, yes, but i’m not gone

your healing made me strong

bridge

tattooed memory, desert grace

i wear your symbol, i keep your face

in every step, in every song

you remind me i belong

final chorus

zia on my shoulder, fire in my skin

your love was shelter, now i begin

i’m leaving, yes, but i’m not gone

your healing made me strong

inspirational
