HEARTSTOPPER IS COMING BACK — BUT WITH A TWIST
Netflix have confirmed that Heartstopper will conclude with a movie adaptation

Big news for Heartstopper fans! Netflix has officially announced that Heartstopper is returning — but not as a traditional fourth season. Instead, Nick and Charlie’s story will conclude in a feature-length film.
Yes, you read that right — Heartstopper is coming to the big screen (or at least your home screen) with a film that will adapt Alice Oseman’s sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel, as well as the beloved novella Nick and Charlie. The announcement on Netflix’s account has sent waves through the fandom, and for good reason — this final chapter promises to be heartfelt, emotional, and unforgettable.
So, what do we actually know?
While the sixth graphic novel has yet to be fully released, we do know that it will follow the aftermath of the events in Volume Five. In that volume, Nick confides that he wants to attend a university further away than originally planned — and Charlie, in a deeply mature and loving moment, supports him. However, this conversation was notably absent from the Heartstopper Season 3 finale, leading many to believe that the upcoming film will revisit and expand on that pivotal moment.
This sets the stage for the film to explore Nick and Charlie’s next big transition: stepping into adulthood. Nick will be heading off to university, while Charlie will be finishing his final year of sixth form — and with that comes the looming challenge of maintaining a relationship through physical distance and emotional growth.
This is where Nick and Charlie, the novella, comes into play. The novella explores the heart-wrenching realities of a long-distance relationship. It dives deeper into the anxieties and adjustments that come when two people who are deeply in love suddenly find themselves in different chapters of life. It’s tender, raw, and deeply relatable — making it the perfect complement to the final graphic novel.
The feature-length format offers a unique opportunity to explore these stories in more emotional depth. The film is expected to focus not only on the difficulties of long-distance love but also on the personal development of both Nick and Charlie as they grow, change, and try to stay connected while finding themselves. It will be a love story — but also a coming-of-age story, in every sense of the word.
And the best news? Alice Oseman, the original creator of Heartstopper, is returning to write the script. Oseman has been a guiding force behind the series from day one, ensuring that every episode stayed true to the tone and heart of the source material. With the creator at the helm, we can rest assured that this film will retain the gentleness, honesty, and warmth that fans have come to expect.
Speaking about the upcoming film, Oseman shared on Instagram: “I’m excited, but it’s also bittersweet. It’s going to be an emotional journey as we bring this chapter to a close, but I can’t wait to show fans what we’ve been working on.”
While specific plot points are still under wraps, Oseman has hinted that the film will explore themes of growing up, letting go, and the quiet strength of enduring love — all of which have been central to Heartstopper from the beginning.
Over the years, Heartstopper has meant so much to so many. It’s offered comfort, representation, and joy to a generation of young queer viewers who saw themselves in Nick and Charlie’s journey. It’s more than just a love story — it’s a story about self-discovery, friendship, mental health, and learning how to show up for the people you care about.
Now, with one final film, fans will get to witness the final steps of that journey. It won’t be easy to say goodbye — but if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Heartstopper will go out with all the heart, hope, and honesty that made it a cultural phenomenon in the first place.
So, get your tissues ready — Nick and Charlie’s last chapter is coming soon to Netflix, and it’s going to be beautiful.
