A Whole Lot of BS: Part One
The bias surrounding Major League Baseball's End of the Year Awards
Greetings, Vocal readers. I'm starting a new series on Vocal called A Whole Lot of BS. The intention for coming up with this series is to share the things that either irritate me, have a hard time understanding, annoy me, or all three. From sports to politics, I'm willing to share my personal gripes. If you have any topics you want to suggest to me, please leave them in the comments section down below and I will take them into consideration. For the debut story of this series, I have a bone to pick regarding Major League Baseball's End of the Year Awards, in particular, last year's winners.
The AL MVP race was a two-man show involving Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judge. Despite Raleigh's record-breaking season during the 2025 season, unfortunately, Judge won the award for the third consecutive year. Cal Raleigh was snubbed and Aaron Judge receiving that honor made zero sense. The New York Yankees haven't been the same team as they were 15, 20 years ago. It's not me throwing shade. It's the god honest truth. They have one World Series title to show for it, which they won back in 2009. Nearly two decades later, their poor performances in the Postseason have resulted in them being one and done, yet MLB awards a player whose team has yet to be the dominant team fans have yearned to see again. To be fair, the Yankees have reached the World Series in 2024, only to lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In Game 5 of the aforementioned World Series, Aaron Judge made a couple of errors, eventually costing the Yankees a championship. If Cal Raleigh is in the contention for the AL MVP Award in 2026 and wins it, it'll be redemption for having an honor that Aaron Judge had stolen from him. Also, if that wasn't enough, he was recently named as the cover player for MLB The Show 26. This is the kind of bias I've been speaking on for a while. First of all, Cal Raleigh should've been on that cover and two, he's overrated and is on a team that hasn't won a World Series title in nearly 20 years. Remember those errors he committed in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series against the Dodgers? If Cal Raleigh were in the running for the AL MVP again this season and actually wins it, that would put a big smile on my face. There are hundreds of players in Major League Baseball. Everything doesn't revolve Judge or the Yankees.
Let's talk about the Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani. 90-95% of MLB's social media posts are about them or anything mentioning the team. A lockout is bound of happen and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be to blame. Why? It's because of them offering players ridiculous large contracts, selfishly gatekeeping Japanese talent from other teams, and their players acting super entitled. They're not building a dynasty; they're buying it. When I call this unfair bias out, I get called a hater, bitter, and everything under the sun, mostly from Dodgers fans. I'm just stating the facts. Everything is not always about Ohtani or the Dodgers. They're literally talking over other teams and players. I've since lost respect for both parties. I don't need the Dodgers agenda constantly being pushed onto me daily. Who knows what other devious, manipulative stunts they'll pull in the upcoming season. The Los Angeles Dodgers can't be trusted in 2026 or ever.
There are other players and teams that deserve to be acknowledged and recognized, too. There's definitely a Dodgers-Yankees agenda that has been unfolding for the longest period of time. I'm honestly tired of it. Both of these teams can't have everything and be the center of attention 24/7. It's annoying and tiring. Finally, both teams and the aforementioned players have humongous egos and entitled attitudes. Call me every name in the book, but my dislike for them will be present for the foreseeable future.
