Super Bowl LX Recap: A Team Called Hawks
The 60th Super Bowl was a tight battle that was won with the use of defense and special teams

Sixty. The Super Bowl turned 60!
Still amazes me that this was the sixtieth Super Bowl played in NFL history. It seems like yesterday that I watched Super Bowl XXVII, the first SB I ever watched. The QB who won Super Bowl XXVII has since called a few SBs, and will call next year's game, but that's another story. Super Bowl LX took place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers. However, it was one of their division foes who represented the NFC, as the Seattle Seahawks faced off against the New England Patriots.
This, of course, was a rematch from 11 years prior. Super Bowl XLIX, played on February 1, 2015. We all know how that ended. The Seahawks lost solely because Russell Wilson couldn't throw an accurate pass to save his life. A lot football fans are throwing the word "payback" around since this matchup became official. And it's funny. Super Bowl XLIX was on NBC that night, the very network that aired this big game. This marked NBC's sixth Super Bowl telecast since they returned to airing NFL games in 2006.
Seahawks won the toss, and the opening drive was a decent one that resulted in a Jason Myers field goal. 3-0 was the score, and that was followed by a lot of ugliness, and I mean a lot of it. Stalled drives the rest of the way resulted in that 3-0 score holding up after the first quarter. Seattle did have a few better results in the second quarter, but still, they could not find the end zone. They did get a pair of FGs, though. Two more Myers kicks made it 9-0, and that was the score at halftime. This was the first time that the first half of a Super Bowl had no TDs since Super Bowl LIII seven years prior.

Finally, we got the halftime show we waited for: Bad Bunny. I've become quite the Bad Bunny fan, I know he's a musician, but he's more than that. He's done some acting; he was recently in Happy Gilmore 2, and among the many celebs who attended the Super Bowl was none other than Adam Sandler. Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) has also made appearances for WWE, and I read we may see him back in WWE soon. Of course, a plethora of racists have been bitching and moaning about him performing; people who are too stupid to realize that Puerto Ricans are Americans. Bad Bunny showed out as usual, and seeing Lady Gaga performing with him was a very epic surprise.
As for the second half, the ugliness continued. The Seahawks weren't getting much, but somehow, New England was getting less. Jason Myers added a fourth field goal, making it 12-0 for the Seahawks. That was the score heading to the final 15 minutes of the overall season. It was looking like we'd see a complete Super Bowl without a touchdown, but at last, someone found the end zone. AJ Barner's reception in the end zone made it a three score game for the Seahawks, 19-0 after the extra point. It was over now. The Patriots finally scored a TD of their own, but that only prevented a shutout; they still had no chance. Myers added a fifth field goal, and Seattle's defense recovered a fumble and ran it all the way. All that was left for the Hawks was to count down the final minutes.

The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl LX, 29-13, over the New England Patriots, winning their second Super Bowl Championship in franchise history--doing so during their milestone 50th season of play. Regarding the Super Bowl MVP nod, that went to running back Kenneth Walker III, and while he was deserving, I felt that we should have seen some history here. Jason Myers should have been named SB MVP. Imagine an actual kicker getting that nod. It had never happened before. Myers had five field goals and a pair of extra points. That's 17 points. Seattle won by 16. And remember, Myers scored the game's first 12 points. But again, I don't have a problem with KW3 getting it. He did run for 135 yards, and his runs did set up some of those FGs.
Super Bowl LX was crazy and wild and ugly, but it was very amazing! The Seahawks have their second Super Bowl Champioship, giving the NFC West nine Super Bowls--five for the Niners, and the Rams and Hawks have two each. As for the Patriots, they are now 6-6 in Super Bowls, but this year was something. As I said, it felt like a reboot, but the reboot didn't see them victorious, but at least they got there. Will they get back there next year? We'll definitely see.
And so ends another insane NFL season. The next time we will hear any major NFL talk is the Draft in April, followed by the schedule announcement in May, and of course, the next season will start in September. Similar to this season, the 2026 season will end in California, but this time, it will be in Inglewood's SoFi Stadium, as that will be the site of Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027. Super Bowl LXI will air on ESPN and ABC; serving as ABC's first Super Bowl in 21 years, while ESPN will have the big game for the first time ever. For now, it's major congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks, but they will have to fill a vacancy in their coaching staff, as Klint Kubiak will now take his place as the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. What a wild finish to a chaotic season, and the long offseason should be very interesting!
