BMW's new luxury mid-size SUV

The new generation BMW X5 (G05) is officially launched. The new car will be launched with only two 40i models equipped with a 3.0T inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine, with 0-100km/h acceleration time of only 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 243 km/h. The new car will also be equipped with a more intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system.
Exterior: Defining the new X design language
The fourth-generation BMW X5 makes its debut overseas, with a new X design language displayed by the iconic body shape that looks familiar. The larger double-kidney grille is visually striking.
The dimensions of the new BMW X5 have grown significantly, with a length, width, and height of 4930/2004/1776 mm and a wheelbase of 2975 mm, which are 36 mm, 66 mm, 19 mm and 42 mm more than the previous generation. Two-color Y-spoke aluminum alloy wheels are available for the upper models, and 22-inch double-spoke two-color aluminum alloy wheels are also available as an option.
The rear design differs greatly from the previous generation and is more stylish and dynamic while maintaining the original sense of stability, especially the full LED 3D suspension taillight cluster has changed greatly in style, making people a little jumpy for a while. In general, in terms of external configuration, M aerodynamic kit, aluminum roof rack, and panoramic glass sunroof are the basic equipment of the new X5; the premium model is additionally equipped with an M sports exhaust system, M performance calipers, starry sky panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, and induction switch luggage compartment.
Interior: focus on enhancing the sense of luxury/technology
The interior of the new BMW X5 still has a familiar atmosphere, but the focus is on improving the driving experience and luxury atmosphere, with better material selection inside the car. The gearshift lever, control knob, start/stop button, and volume control button of the radio system are all equipped with sparkling crystal interior components, and the "angel wings" welcome light carpet and six colors of intelligent ambient light are set to be on par with rival Mercedes-Benz.
The all-digital instrumentation and control display are also a highlight of the new BMW X5, which is the first BMW model to use full LCD instrumentation without physical structure. Not only that, the built-in iDrive 7.0 human-machine interaction system is more intelligent, with dual 12.3-inch HD digital displays whose content can be freely defined according to the driver's habits and preferences, recognizing multiple dialects and voice dialogues, as well as having seven gesture control functions.
In terms of interior features, the new model comes standard with M Sport multifunctional leather steering wheel, M Sport package, heated front seats, intelligent touch keys, automatic parking, Apple Car Play, and an intelligent connected cockpit. The Premium model has exclusive access to front comfort seats, power adjustment, power lumbar support, advanced four-zone automatic climate control, Harman/Kardon premium audio system, wireless charging for cell phones, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW X5's driver assistance system enables full L2-level autonomous driving with blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, cruise control with braking function, collision warning with city braking, and a pedestrian warning system as standard. High-end models will also be upgraded with a professional driving assistance system and enhanced parking assistance systems.
Space: Comfortable ride space, the trunk is the highlight
The performance of the new X5 in terms of riding space is naturally more relaxed after lengthening. When a 176 cm tall person rides, the headspace is abundant and the leg space plays normally; in addition, the whole car seats have a high degree of comfort, and the surface covered with leather has a fine texture, especially the center of the rear floor is only slightly raised, so the riding comfort is guaranteed.
The new BMW X5 is rich in storage space and has humanized settings such as wireless charging devices for cell phones and cooling/heating cup holders. It is worth mentioning that its trunk is two-stage electrically opened, making the space more practical.
Power: B58TU inline six-cylinder engine + ZF 8AT
The new BMW X5 is only available with the B58 3.0T inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine, with a power output of 340 hp/5500-6500 rpm and 450 N-m/1500-5200 rpm, and a transmission system matching the 8-speed sports manual transmission (with shift paddles). /In addition, the new car will be equipped with a more intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system, which not only provides excellent traction but also better performance in flexibility, directional stab, le, and fuel consumption.
In addition, the new BMW X5 can be equipped with an optional intelligent air suspension with a lift range of 80 mm and an electronically controlled rear axle differential from M to meet the driver's needs for control and driving comfort, while providing four multi-terrain driving modes: rock, gravel, ice, and sand.
Model Background
The first generation of BMW X5 (E53) was launched in 1999, creating a unique concept of the BMW SAV luxury sport utility vehicle, which was born thanks to the help of Land Rover. The "SAV" model was born.
BMW's attempts in the new field were so successful that the development of the second generation X5 (E70) was soon put on the agenda. It replaced the E53 in the overseas market in November 2006, and the BMW iDrive system and other more advanced technological equipment at that time gave the car a stronger competitive edge. At the 2009 New York Auto Show, BMW further introduced the X5 M performance model, which was equipped with a high-performance V8 engine that broke the BMW M's previous tradition of using only naturally aspirated engines.
The third generation of the BMW X5 debuted, and like its predecessor, it went into production at BMW's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA. In this generation, BMW undertook a new exploration in the field of new energy. Today, the BMW X5 has a large number of owners and fans around the world, and the first three generations of the model have accumulated more than 2.1 million units sold, making it one of the best-selling models in its class.
Competitors
In the luxury mid-size SUV market, the old rivals of the BMW X5 are Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, the former has been in a lukewarm state after its replacement, while the latter's new generation model has not yet entered the country, which gives the new BMW X5 a certain buffer period and is expected to take a bigger market share. In addition, Volvo XC90, Volkswagen Touareg, and other mid-size SUVs with similar price points may also become competitors of the new BMW X5, but combined with the strong product power of the new generation models, it is not easy for these rivals to shake the market position of the new X5.
Summary
As a new generation model, the new BMW X5 does not have "earth-shattering" changes in exterior and interior design, but the internal training is more refined, focusing on the two attributes of technology and luxury, especially the sparkling crystal interior components, the starry sky panoramic sunroof and other details that are considered works of art, making the new X5 a straight man full of "girl's heart". "girlish", more in line with the tastes of today's young consumers. Most importantly, the new powertrain brings more powerful power performance, and driving pleasure remains its most shining label, which is what makes the rival car unbeatable.
