Yakutia the coldest village in the world

Almost everyone in the world knows that Yakutia is the coldest village in the world. But this is just one fact among many other interesting facts. For instance, it might shock you to discover that Yakutia is the world’s largest sub-national governing body. It’s also the largest federal subject of the Russian Federation. This is a clear indication that the people of Yakutia are hardworking. Their least population as Yakutia is one of the less populated areas in the world and the cold climate has not hindered their success.

A majority of people in Yakutia are concentrated in Yakutsk, the Republic’s capital and cultural center. This has made the other areas of the republic less populated with some areas entirely unoccupied. This makes Yakutia home to one of the most remote areas in the world. Beyond, it’s not hard to find completely untouched flora and fauna in this part of the world. If you are yearning to spend time in a truly undisturbed place away from modernization and civilization, Yakutia's village is the name of the place you're looking for.

Its capital Yakutsk

Situated on the Lena River, Yakutsk is the capital of the Sakha Republic, Yakutia. It was started by Russian Cossacks back in 1632 as a tiny wooden fort but today, it's home to more than 250,000 people. Even though you'd still come across old wooden houses in this modern city, so many modern tall buildings and soviet time blocks of apartments have come up in large numbers.

The city houses several museums and theatres. So you can include a few in your itinerary during your visit to this city. Just be sure to plan your visit in summer because winter here can get pretty cold. You can also enjoy a lot here during winter but it’s never a great idea to go outdoors when the temperature falls below -40C.

One of the best museums to visit here is the Natural History Museum. The museum shares a lot of information concerning the history of the region. Here, you'll discover interesting facts about the inhabitants of this area and the lifestyle they have adapted to thrive in such a cold place. Other attractions include the University Museum of Archeology and Ethnography and the Museum of Mammoth.

The city of Yakutsk is culturally a vibrant city all year round. The people are friendly and ever-ready to open doors for strangers as well as share deep information about their way of life. Even though this city is colder than other cities in the world, it can be lots of fun to live in this fascinating city.

Why Yakutia?

Someone might wonder why Yakutia is a great place considering it's super cold, especially during the winter. However, what many people have not discovered is the fact that Yakutia is epic in so many ways. Yakutia is amazingly rich in natural resources from gold, natural gas, diamonds, and silver to oil just to mention a few. In fact, almost 15 percent of diamond production in the world comes from Yakutia. That’s why you’ll find some of the deepest man-made holes in the world here in Yakutia. They were dug when exploiting diamonds.

Yakutia is beautiful. The fact that the area is less ununexploited, that means most of its natural resources and landmarks such as rivers are in their natural form. One such river is the Lena River. It is Yakutia’s lifeline. It flows through the entire Yakutia all the way to the Arctic Ocean about 4000 kilometers north from its source.

This unique place might be colder than any other part of the universe but its uniqueness has made people from different parts of the world travel to this place.
