Belén
Movies are a wonderful form of entertainment, but more importantly they are perhaps the best vehicle for social and political commentary there is because they are so accessible to the masses. This year we have gotten some excellent commentary from films like Sinners and Mickey 17 and now Belén.

Mickey 17
Mickey 17 was on the must watch list for last year but time got away from me. We are once again playing catch up before awards season, I promise I will start doing these in a timely manner this year! This was a film we knew we wanted to see. Robert Pattinson is actually an incredible actor who sometimes still gets caught up in Twilight discourse in an attempt to discredit his skills. That combined with it being a Bong Joon Ho movie made it highly anticipated.

KPop Demon Hunters
Okay so I’ve been hearing about nothing but KPop Demon Hunters since it came out. The kids I teach loved it, my cousin loved it, my roommate loved it. So I knew that it would at the very least get some popularity nominations so I knew I had to watch it.

The Materialists
Ya know when this movie first came out I thought what a shame it is that Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans were even in this movie. Because I love both of them and they are fantastic actors but the person that ties their characters together is Dakota Johnson and she’s just such a bad actress.

Frankenstein
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is one of the most iconic literary works of all time. It has received a number of adaptations and the newest one to join the ranks is Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein released just a little earlier this year. The memorable story was a match made in heaven for this well known and awarded director. With seemingly the perfect project, perfect director, and perfect cast many classic literature fans and cinephiles were waiting with baited breath for this film to drop in theatres and on Netflix.

Marvel Zombie. Top Story - December 2025.
The last entry into our 2025 superhero projects catalogue is Marvel Zombies. This was a show that was anticipated by absolutely no one and it disappeared from the public consciousness as quickly as it was released. There was nothing special about the project that made it a must see, or a must remember. In fact if anything it's a must forget.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
We were given many creative, incredible, original films this year and we were also given some remakes. Among those was I Know What You Did Last Summer, arguably one of the most iconic horror/thriller films of all time. The original had an incredible cast and a 90s charm to it that is hard to match. We will however be reviewing just this movie as it stands, on its own. We will be comparing how it holds up next to the original in a later article.

Wake Up Dead Man
It’s been a little while since we have gotten a Knives Out film. Though the first one is yet to be topped, the series remains fun, twisty and extremely entertaining. With yet another all-star cast Wake Up Dead Man promises to live up to the hype of its predecessors.

Bugonia . Top Story - December 2025.
Okay so I have a love-hate relationship with Yorgos Lanthimos. He is either brilliant, or he’s a self indulgent mess with no message of any kind and there really doesn’t seem to be any in between. So watching his movies is tedious. That said he always manages to pull in actors that I love so I always bite the bullet and watch whatever he puts out. This year's entry is Bugonia. And from a hit or miss director this one is a hit.

Weapons
Weapons was the talk of the internet when it first came out, but the response seemed to be like a flash in the pan. Honestly that’s part of the reason I put some distance between my watch and the film's release date unless it's something I’m dying to see. Not that I ever believe public opinion anyway but it's nice to see if the film's quality holds up against the internet’s attention span.

Eyes of Wakanda
Marvel really pushed out the projects this year, so for those of you who praised Iger for his “quality over quantity” bullshit I hope you feel as stupid as you are. Cause 3 films and 5 TV shows is exactly what’s been happening for the last decade if not more. And most of what they put out this year was fantastic and the rest of it was good. Eyes of Wakanda is no different. I really wish we got more stuff from Marvel animation, it's so beautifully done and often it's better than a good chunk of the live action stuff.
