Ranking Female Lead Films
I’ve mentioned on every platform I have that female lead and female fronted are two separate things. Before we embark on this list I wanted to clarify that this only includes female lead films. That means not just films with female leads but also with female writers or directors. In order to be considered a female lead film, there needs to be women on both sides of the camera.

In a world with both Marvel and DC there are thousands upon thousands of superheroes, very few of those get long running solo series. Many get short spotlights or mini-series. And of those few, even fewer are women. Of the thousands of heroes, the ones that are women number somewhere in the hundreds. Of the solo titles granted the number of women led titles are in the double digits and most of those are limited engagements. Well we are granted with another limited series from Marvel and quite frankly this one is long overdue. Before we get to Photon let's talk about the incredible woman it centers around, Monica Rambeau.

The Best and Worst of Marvel's Phase 4
Phase 4 of the MCU brought in many mixed reviews, it also brought out a lot of hate, sexism and racism in the fandom. Phase 4 was a rebuilding phase, think of it like phase 1. They had to introduce a lot of things so that they could continue with the stories that they started to set up in previous phases. There were a few not good projects that came out of phase 4 but the reality is that most of it was brilliant and there aren’t valid criticisms of it that don’t also apply to the first three phases of the MCU.

DC 2023
DC and Warner Brothers have undergone quite a lot of changes over the last few months and every new piece of information released seems to divide the fandom more. With James Gunn at the helm there seems to be a hard reboot of the DCEU coming, yet there are some lingering projects that Warner Brothers simply can’t afford to cut and therefore they will be released in the face of a reboot.

Marvel 2023
There has been much discussion on the internet about the quality of Marvel’s phase 4, most of the criticism uses the phrase “quantity over quality” now quite frankly that's a bullshit copout phrase that people who are incapable of an intelligent opinion use, but Marvel does not seem to be slowing down so I would like to dive into the slate for 2023 and discuss their possibilities.

Things That Feel Like Winter
Now as we discovered in October there are certain pieces of media that feel like fall and likewise there are pieces of media that feel like winter. These are the perfect shows, movies, music and books to experience when it's raining or snowing outside and you are just trying to stay warm. The Power of Marketing
In a world where media surrounds us in a way that is inescapable there is so much that exists that it can’t possibly all be good. Now not everything that is branded as “bad” by the general public actually had to suffer that fate. Sometimes the problem isn’t the cast, plot or dialogue, sometimes it's simply the marketing. The marketing of a project can kill it or sell it more than the project itself. If a television show is marketed as a teen drama then that's the drama that you expect, however if a project is branded as satire then it's easier as a writer or showrunner as you haven;t boxed yourself into a specific genre. Both Riverdale and Jennifer’s Body get a bad rap, one because it is in fact bad but would be brilliant if marketed differently and the latter brilliant but marketed so poorly a majority of the initial audience missed the point.

Male v Female Gaze
Just like our other heroines in the MCU, Black Widow was the first to suffer from the male gaze. Her treatment was admittedly the worst, being the most sexualized and used specifically and solely for male enjoyment. Black Widow and her treatment is also easier to track due to her being the first female avenger and amount of appearances. From her start the writers and directors wanted audiences to see Natasha as nothing more than an object, and yet her loyal fans saw so much more.

Smallville
With about a thousand adaptations of Superman in existence there is always plenty of talk around the fans of DC about which is the best. The reality of the situation is that there are many good adaptations but none as good, or as thorough as Smallville. The 2001 live action series set the bar high for all superhero media to come and yet none have lived up to the incredible nature of Smallville.

Separating Art from the Artist
Many artists across history are problematic, they have all done, said or live by ideals that are no longer acceptable in the eyes of society. Just to be clear, “cancel culture” isn’t a thing, it's called grown people finally being held accountable for their actions. Jk Rowling and Joss Whedon are two media giants who definitely deserve to be held accountable for their actions, but what does that mean for fans of their work?
