Last Friday Evening. Content Warning.
With a quiet sigh, Robert pushed himself up from the love seat, slowly transferring his weight to his tired joints. Clicking the remote on his armrest, he silenced the news anchor. He turned to Loretta, she, still staring wide-eyed at the now dull gray screen and he, admiring the way the pattern of soft light and shadow from the blinds traced the contours of the face he still adored.

Well, Whadaya Know - the Big Five-Oh (Oh, Oh). Top Story - September 2023.
What I'm Doing Here The subject of Vocal milestones came up in a comments conversation with my friend across the pond, Paul Stewart a few days ago. In that discussion, we both mentioned that we had one "right around the corner." Neither of us gave anything away at the time, but I'm going to put mine out there today, and I'm late in doing so.

DisGRUNTled
This story is part of the Vocal + Assist on Facebook Lost in a Story Challenge. You can learn more about it here: Oh, sure! Cheer for the runt that got saved! Saved by a SPIDER, of all things! Some words a human “saw” spelled out in a web? Puh-leeez! Probably imagined it. They imagine all sorts of things.

Bring on Spooky Season!. Content Warning.
I really have to start this one off with an explanation and I'll be posting a few links after the poem. First of all, it was written in response to S. A. Crawford's "Spooky Season Challenge." Second, it was unknowingly inspired in a weird way by Kelli Sheckler-Amsden's piece, entitled "Scarecrows and Mazes." (Here's where it started to get weird.) The meter of that title immediately brought to my mind a Julie Andrews song from "The Sound of Music." Can you guess which one? Never mind. It was "My Favorite Things." So, this poem is set to the tune of that song. It also has an Elvira reference in the second line, because I needed a good rhyming word and I was a fan. (I'm a guy, I was young once, and I love scary movies.) I'm afraid it just went downhill from there, but the final stanza (the bridge of the song, sort of) actually states my "reason for the season." Hold on; here we go and I hope you have fun:

Get to Know Me: The Codger Edition. Top Story - September 2023.
My entry for Kayleigh's Get to Know Me Challenge, which you can learn more about here: I've been on the fence about entering this challenge for a while. I've decided to go ahead with it, because a few friends have left encouraging replies to my comments on theirs. So, here goes, and I'll try to keep it on the positive side.
