A Friend
Have you ever met a true friend and then realized that the day you first met would be the last. That’s the way it was with me and Nightingale. I never found out his first name, but it didn’t matter. All of his friends only called him Nightingale. Let me tell you how we met.

Mr. Nightingale
I was only 3 years old when Mr. Nightingale came into my life. To me, he was a friend, everything but imaginary. He stood 7 feet tall, dark red skin, black shirt and pants, and a white trench coat that was always clean regardless of what we did together. He also had a black walking stick with a bird on top.

Shh!
We’ve been friends for a long time. A very long time. Ever since Billy Blockhead tried to initiate me on the first day of freshman year in high school. Remember? You beat him up—him and the other three boys that were with him. I can guarantee that was something they’ll never forget. I heard Billy still has nightmares about that day.

I don’t know what everybody is talking about with Johnny. I got to class late. Whatever went on with him happened before I got there. I do know that Mr. Gates got something against Johnny. He has ever since Freshman year. As soon as he found out that Donnie was his brother.

Well, Mrs. Bronson, I don’t pretend to know about all of this stuff. My head is full of sports trivia. For example, did you know that Michael Morgan of the Sox went to this school The only reason that I was able to get a passing grade in this class is because I was allowed to color a picture of a banana for extra credit. I thank God that a D- is still considered passing. But a guess that all I need to do is tell you what I saw.

Mrs. Bronson, the word around school is that all of this was Johnny’s fault. I don’t know how it happened, but I also don’t know why people are always blaming Johnny for all of the bad things that happen. Like when the fire alarm was pulled last week. Who did they blame? Johnny! And when Billy was locked in his locker. Who did they blame? Johnny! When Mr. Martins butt was glued to the chair, they automatically blamed Johnny. Johnny is the nicest, sweetest, cutest boy in the school. His only flaw is that he hangs around with that Qwan boy. They’re so different.

The Amazing Power of AI. AI-Generated.
This contains AI generated text. When I was in high school, I watched a video where a camera connected to a computer was pointed at a cup. The computer analyzed the image for a few minutes before the word cup appeared on the screen. This was in the mid 1990’s. At that time, the very thought of a computer being able to “think” about the identity of an item was completely science fiction. Fiction being the key word. To see that the technology was real, I was completely amazed.

I don’t know who you have already spoken to, but I didn’t do nothing. It wasn’t me. His face was like that when I walked into the room. They are always blaming me for stuff that I ain’t do. Why do they do that. I’m perfectly innocent. They have no proof to pin nothing on me. If they do, show me. I AIN’T DO IT.
