Come On In...We're Hoping
I had no intention of writing this piece. Another semester is down; I have ongoing contracts, exhaustion, and my summer of scrounging for money to cover the bills I will have to handle. I know that there will be no real break for me until mid-June, and I am trying to enjoy any spare time without staring at a news crawl or wondering if Canada will ever have a team holding Lord Stanley’s finest silverware. And to save money, I have been using libraries, secondhand bookstores, and the occasional Livre-Service box (thank you, Montreal). One of the interesting things about those boxes is that I have often found things in them that could not be mistaken for a book: t-shirts, pens, pencils, highlighters, magazines, newspapers, videotapes (!), and even the occasional DVD. This past week, I found Merchant and Ivory’s “The Bostonians,” not a film that I would bother with, but it is physical media and the creation of a pair of filmmakers whom I admire. And then I made the mistake of bringing it home, opening up the case, and noting where that movie originated.

The Kendall Defoe Challenge!
It is the middle of the month of May. I have marked the last set of exams at the college…and begun a new contract at an office that is testing the wear and tear of my feet (always on fire after three straight hours). The weather has become warm enough for people to become confused as to what they should wear outside (parkas and shorts all over my commute). The tax refund is in, as are the bills for other joys of life. And I have noticed something special on this page…

And Now Come the Stories...
Yes, I have forgotten that I need to take a break... I am not sure what most of you like to do on your weekends, but I seem to be finding myself going through my dreams and ambitions, and finding that I have a book or two ready to go.

First Time, Online
Is it significant that I have my first online collection just in time for Good Friday? I did it! I decided to follow the path laid out by many other writers both here and in my own private sphere and publish my work online. I will admit that it is not the first time I have considered doing this sort of thing. I have a story to tell of a lot of missed opportunities and desperation on my part.
