Not So Quiet
I knew there was a problem when I entered the city. We took a very large boat from the space port right out onto the water, past the Statue of Liberty toward what used to be Manhattan. There was nothing there but ocean. The whole city was gone, underwater. There were a few lighted posts poking up from where the city used to be. We made our way to a spot between two of the larger posts, and then slowly began to submerge until we found ourselves on top of a large transparent steel dome. We slowly slid across the dome until we got to the latch and connected the hull to the dome.

I've Been Quite
The dome had expanded, since we were gone. The Artificial Life Forms (ALFs) had been hard at work to create a suitable environment not only for humans, but other animals. We suddenly saw many of the extinct animals we had only heard of roaming through a very large jungle they had created on the western side of the dome where they had extended it for several acres. It would have been impossible to do, but since the ALFs were connected to The Net and every other ALF in the universe help had arrived quickly and those who were more adept at doing such things had gone to work terraforming more and more of mars.

Quite
Quiet. Quiet is what I’ve had for more time than I can remember. My mind has drifted all over the universe for an eternity and then, I am back to being me. Brenda is sitting beside me now. For a long time her consciousness and mine were merged into one body. We were intertwined as one being. Now we are separate.

Finally -- I Married The Snake
I didn’t consider myself a pilot and never wanted to be, but by the time we reached our destination I had plenty of experience on the simulator. I couldn’t believe that we had spent almost three days in null space to get to this planet. No wonder the people of Earth never heard of it. In ships going slower than the speed of light it would have taken centuries.

Finally Part 3--The Takeover
I looked at Darla across the room sitting in front of the fireplace in the single room cabin on Earth, just where we had started six months before. She was reading another book as if nothing had happened, but we had been exiled. She and all those loyal to her, including me, had been sent off to distant planets. Why me? I shook my head.

Finally The Humans Destroyed Themselves
I was in class again. It was a small room with myself and only two other people. An ALF (Artificial Life Form) was standing in front of us teaching us about the customs of the Terrainian people–something I didn’t really care about. I guess he could tell. He looked at me through narrowed lids, tapped the side of his head and sent me a telepathic message. It hurt a little. I wasn’t used to it. They were trying to teach me to be a telepath. When I wasn’t that good at it they implanted a chip in my inner ear to help.

Your Brain Is Gone
"We needed a special license for everything on Earth. We needed one for driving, for cooking, for massaging, and eventually for thinking. We were plugged into big MetaVR Programs most of our lives that used our thoughts and imaginations, and we had to take tests to prove we could use them for ourselves and ended up hiding, and paying for the progress of human beings with our life energy."
