Somers Travels Business Class in 40-7 Victory over Harrison

Nine plays and Tristan Iglesias was in the end zone in less than six minutes. But Harrison was pretty laissez-faire at the outset too. The Huskies took a 7-6 lead two minutes later so Somers simply cornered the market as usual.

John Jay Loses Overtime Thriller to Rye
See Photos at end On Saturday October 4, 8-1 John Jay welcomed 8-1 Rye to Contest Field and the team’s doubled down to a late game 2-2 tie. A ferocious back and forth, the tables seemed to tip when a John Jay shot from above the circle grounded past all kinds of sticks and forced the Rye goalie to kick the dribbler away. Unfortunately, for the stop gap, she swung and missed with her kicker, and the Wolves rose in celebration. But the refs stepped in, played party poopers and the actual tipping point was even more of a killjoy.

Somers Falls 5-0 to White Plains
Photos are at end of the article On Thursday September 18, Somers hosted White Plains at the high school, and with two minutes left in the first half, the goal tally was still stuck at number zero. The offensive time of possession was completely another matter and foretold the one sided outcome for the visitors.

Somers Settles for a Tie versus Panas

Three matches a piece, the outcome fell on the doubles team of Isabella Miele and Lacy Sanders “If they win, we win,” said singles player Eve Clark, and a loss meant the reverse. But it turned out there was a third option.

See Photos at end On Tuesday September 17, Somers hosted North Salem and coming across town as the defending state champs obviously added some juice to the rivalry. Physical on both sides, said Coach Rob Carreira, “I think a little bit of emotion from the game got to us at points.” But the end result proved the boys kept an overall even keel.

Somers Plays its Cards Right in 2-1 Victory Over Greeley
Photos are at end of article On Friday September 5, Somers and Greeley were knee deep in a defensive struggle at the high school. A 1-1 game with eight minutes to play, Somers lined up for a penalty shot, and at this point in the season, Coach Brian Lanzetta paused on a strategy. “It’s early to show your cards,” he said. But a league game, versus a AA team, the moment got the better of him.

Somers Moves to 3-0 with Sweep Over Ossining

On Wednesday September 10, Somers was hoping to remain undefeated, and after taking the first two versus visiting Ossining, the prospects were good. 23-21 in favor of the Tuskers and Katie Kourakos was primed at the net to set up match point. But the hitter/setter had something else in mind.
