Islamic Center of Peekskill Blends in on North Division Street
When our political discussions turn to foreign policy, the Middle East almost instinctively moves to the forefront of contention. "That's the reality of our times," said Papa Sall, Imam of the Islamic Center of Peekskill. But seismic shifts in today's human events do not take precedence over a permanence found in the message the Senegal born holy man has for his flock.

My Favorite 'Star Trek' Movie Scenes from the Original Cast
'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' I love Star Trek : The Motion Picture, and the disembark from dry dock always blows me away. In 1979, the ole NCC proudly flashing its titanium left us a gasp. The lighted view, over the new score, gave us the time to pause and take in the Enterprise like we never had before. But what really does it for me is the way TMP feels like a TOS episode, and it begins with Kirk. In later installments, Kirk feels more like a consensus builder who rises only slightly above that of co-leader. In TMP, Kirk commands, and there’s no discrepancy.

Properly Inspired, A Plattsburgh Professor Made the Most of My Limited Intelligence
30 years ago, I packed my bags for Plattsburgh State. The fear of leaving home for the first time was readily apparent. Regardless, I beat that 20 minutes after my parents left me for dead. As for the major I chose, that was another story.

Fox Lane Graduate Brings Soldier Stories Back to Somers Intermediate School
Last Tuesday, Fox Lane High School graduate Jonathan Kelton spoke and presented a slide show before 150 5th graders at the Somers Intermediate School. A lieutenant in the special forces, his unit patrols the border of Pakistan and lays artillery fire to help suppress enemy insurgency into Afghanistan. Not mincing words, the 24 year old Ranger summed up in plain language what the U.S. presence means to the local people.

All marriages require sacrifice and contain many challenges—especially when children are involved. But in Peter Welch's new family oriented sitcom, The House Arrest Rooneys, the storyline takes us way beyond those obvious facts of matrimonial life. And not just in name of the show either.

Author Remembers Ardsley Baseball’s Four Straight State Titles
The Yankees did it twice. So did the Montreal Canadians. The Islanders may have the most impressive string of Championships by winning 19 straight playoff series. But right here in Westchester, Ardsley has a place among the immortals. From 1986 through 1989, Ardsley won four straight Class C Baseball State Championships, and their run may even surpass the do-or-die streaks that came before them.

Rye Duo Helps Defeat Somers 19–9
After giving up 34 points to John Jay last week, Somers would gladly have taken a 19 spot against Rye in their follow up. The same goes for jumping out to a 9–0 lead after trailing the entire game last Friday. But following two crucial momentum-shifting turnovers, Somers could just not keep up with the crossfire between Rye Quarterback Declan Lavelle and his favorite target Matt Tepedino.

Tantra Speed Date Had the Energy Flowing
I was recently invited to a Tantra Speed Date event by my friend Guy Shahar. I didn't know what that was so I enlisted a generic Google search on "Tantra." I saw stuff about slowing down sex, adding intimacy through energy and other thought-driven addenda that seemed over my head. But I was primed with a reply if anyone asked me if I've ever had tantric sex. “You kidding me, I've barely had sex-sex.” As it were, I was ready to go home after the first date. (Don’t worry Guy, I like to capture my readers by making them think I'm leading with a negative).
