The Fashion World
Who is Charles Frederick Worth? Have you ever heard of him? How is he connected to “The Fashion World”? Charles Frederick Worth was born on 13th October, 1825, in Bourne, Lincolnshire, to William and Ann Worth. William was a solicitor who was described as a “dissolute” and who ruined the family finances, eventually leaving Ann without financial support and impoverished. Charles went out to work at eleven years of age at a printer’s shop. When a year had gone by, he moved to London to become an apprentice at Swan & Edgar department store in Piccadilly. Seven years later, the leading British textile store, Lewis & Allenby, employed Charles.

The Fashion World
We all know the name “Christian Dior” and feel ‘chic’ when wearing his clothes. The fashion shows are a wonder to behold and it’s always a good name for the models to add to their CV’s. But how many of us know the history of the man and the company?

MERMAIDS
I’ve been recently watching the television series “Sirens” and was fascinated by the subject. As well as being a story in Disney, mermaids have always been in our minds through the centuries. These ‘sea creatures’ have been in our psyche for as long as humans have been around. Such beautiful but dangerous creatures, we “Want” them to be real, as they seem to be the cross-over between the sea animals and humans, after all we love dolphins and would love to swim with them, let alone live with them.

Game of Thrones
With over 2,000 characters in the (Game of Thrones) “A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which ones are your favourites? In the television series, it seems that ‘a lot’ were killed off by the end of series one, but just like the books, new characters just keep on coming.

Witchcraft
The most favourite time of the year for me personally is Halloween. It is such a fun celebration, with all its games and costumes and ‘scary’ films. Child or adult, Halloween is just so much fun! As it is so very near, 31st October, it seemed appropriate to so an article on Witchcraft.

My Favourite
My absolute favourite books to read are the “Game of Thrones books. The story lines put me in another world in my mind and fires my imagination. The books are far better than the series, although the television series does do justice for the books. Quite a few paragraphs I have read and thought: “they could never put that on the screen,” and then saw the screen version --- and was amazed at how accurate it all is when put side by side with the books!

The Birds of the Seas
The Dolphin is one of the most beautiful and lively marine creatures on this Earth. It sings underneath the Oceans of this world and jump out of the waters to ‘see’ the world we live in. They are graceful, sleek swimmers and can reach speeds of more than 18 miles an hour. They are playful and often frolic in a boat’s wake, leaping out of the water --- mainly for fun but also to communicate and shed pesky parasites.

Dachau
The Nazis Concentration Camps were one of the worst things to have happened in human history. In my opinion, they came second only to the nuclear weapon that was used on the Japanese City of Hiroshima. These are ‘incidents’ that will never be forgotten (or allowed to be forgotten) within the “History Book” of humankind.
