Meet the Vocal Challenge Judges
Since the launch of Challenges on January 21st, 2020, Vocal Creators from around the world have enjoyed over 125 opportunities (and counting) to turn their creativity into cash, rewards, and prestige. Through stories involving little black books, night owls, dystopian societies, and even just life as we know it, we've become extremely close with the ever-growing creative community on Vocal.

In a society stunted by intergenerational poverty, Eugena Oh and the "I Have a Dream" Foundation are leveling the field by offering holistic, individualized support for disadvantaged youths and families across the globe. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, the nonprofit empowers children (“Dreamers”) in under-resourced communities to graduate from college by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to succeed in postsecondary school, along with tuition support to aid in removing financial barriers.

This edition of Verified finds us on the cusp of April, and in the Greater New York area where we are, Spring has certainly sprung. As much as we would love to take the optimistic tone of the chirping birds, crocus buds, and increased accessibility to the vaccine, that would be disingenuous of us. The fact that a gradual return to "normal life" in the U.S. has lead to the return of mass shootings is impossible to ignore, as is the frighteningly pervasive problem of anti-Asian violence.

As we waved goodbye to 2020, we will be very honest: We hoped there would be way more chill in 2021. With news of multiple COVID-19 vaccines being distributed worldwide, we certainly had reason to believe we were turning the page on dark days. And as we waltzed confidently into a new year, we were cruelly reminded that the stroke of midnight on January 1st was not the "magic wand" that a lot of us were hoping that it would be.
