70s music
The 1970s were all about sex, drugs and rock and roll; Beat welcomes you to our Disco Inferno.
Rock and Roll With a Symphonic Beat
British rock group Electric Light Orchestra or ELO comes from Birmingham, England. Actually, if you just hear their name, they sound like a symphonic orchestra. During their popularity in the years between 1971 and 1986, they came out with 11 studio albums and added on one more in 2001. This band came together as the creation of Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, whose dream was to add classical overtones to rock and pop songs. Wood departed the band after they came out with their debut album, but Lynne stayed and wrote and arranged all of their original compositions and also produced all of their albums.

Male Musicians of the 1970s. Top Story - September 2021.
The 70's was a fun and diverse era in which we saw singer-songwriters come to the forefront. Punk rock and disco had their heyday in the mid and late 70's. Funk brought out the quirky and sometimes freakish side of R&B and adult contemporary was a force with which to be reckoned. This post focuses on some of the male musicians that made a mark in the 70's spanning many of these genres.

The Art of Neon Park
I’ve been relistening to the first five Little Feat albums this week. Little Feat were one of the nearest things to a perfect American band that you could hear, probably on a par with The Band. I had been fascinated with their album covers starting at “Sailin’ Shoes”.

The Book Of Invasions
As a teenager I tended to be outside all the standard musical groupings , although I did grow to appreciate a huge swathe of music as I grew up. Early in the seventies I picked up on “The Tain” by the Irish band Horslips, based on a legend from Irish Mythology.

Before Joyful Pianos
I. There were four people. Eric, Isabelle, Money and Joe Sunrise. All of them had grown up. Eric was a Seacoast Guy like a fishing boat. Isabelle was familiar with the beautiful city. Money had a way with knowing zones. Money could remember the details. He knew what to say about what he remembered. As for Joe Sunrise, he was bright as a sailing day.

That 70s Swagger
What happened to rock and roll? When did it become so antiseptic and prissy? Maybe I'm showing my age, but I lament the death of rock music as I always knew it. I don't need corporate-sponsored spectacle. Where's the grit? Where's the heart? Where's the groove?

Gordon Lightfoot music threads my needle
The first time I heard a song by Gordon Lightfoot it was "If you could read my mind which was released in 1970. I listened to the tune on an eight tract tape player on the school bus in 1971. I was 13 and in the eighth grade and thought this was one of the most mellow, songs I had ever heard and it always made me feel relaxed. We had a 45 minute drive to and from the junior high school and listening to the music was a way to pass the time.
