Would you be my anti-valentine?
Dear Lover, What would it take to wean you off Valentine's Day? Bury the hatchet I used to love her, but I had to kill her I used to love her, hm yeah, but I had to kill her I had to put her six feet under And I can still hear her complain

A Little(ish) Anti-Valentine's Playlist: PART 1
Compiled in conjunction with Vocal's Anti-Valentine's Playlist challenge, this selection of songs I've cobbled together herein runs the gamut of genres, artists, decades, and levels of lyrical and thematic seriousness. All of them are specifically assembled for one shared goal: to act as the antithesis of whatever Valentine's Day was ostensibly created to celebrate.

Love Is Not Enough
Love is one of those things we all want to experience and be in. We yearn for it, and once we get it, we realize it’s the most beautiful while still being the scariest as well. We sometimes even start a relationship knowing it won’t last, but the passion is so intense we think we can get through anything. We soon learn this is not always the case, passion and love are not enough. As you try to love your way through you begin to loose yourselves in an attempt at trying to love enough for both people. In these circumstances a great song says the things you feel and the sounds of the music and the lyrics of the song assist in he healing and helping us get through the pain. As we start to realize something is off, we start to detach to protect ourselves. A great song will pull those emotions out of you and in its own way help you to heal and realize what you are feeling. Sometimes we don’t have the words to explain it, but a song will hit the nail right on the head. Listening to songs like:

A Very Emo Valentine's Playlist
An Anti-Valentine’s Day play list can be inspired by many things or events. Unfortunately for me, my playlist is inspired by “the breakup” that really crushed me. Going through an intense break up, can really feel like the morning of a true loss. After all, it really is in many ways the death of what was, or what could have been.

Fuck You In Particular, Valentines Day.
Its a Sunday night bar pushing closing time, a bitter reminder of the inevitability of the blizzard outside. Spilled throughout the joint is a wide spectrum of Valentines playing out. A dry-humping couple; a young man with a rose in his breast pocket, frown on his face; singles, floating in the sea of the dance floor grab hold to each other like life preservers.

I Hate Everything About U
When scrolling through the vast number of songs that could easily make any Anti-Valentine’s Day play list, there is one song that distinguishes itself from many others. It encapsulates, for me, the spirit of Anti-Valentine’s Day in that it expresses very much the opposite of that lovie-lovie smootchie-smootchie garbáge that a day like Valentine’s requires. The original song was recorded by a hard-rock / heavy metal band from the early 90’s who’s name alone might start us off in the right direction for our Anti-Valentines Day celebration: Ugly Kid Joe. Their debut hit is the perfect break-up song, the perfect I’m-pissed-off-with-you song, and, in my most humble opinion, a superb candidate for the anthem of Anti-Valentine’s Day: “Everything About You” absolutely must top the list of any Anti-Valentine’s Day sentiment.

#ForeverAlone #SingePringle Playlist
Ahh Valentines Day, the day of lovers and spending a sickening amount of money on someone that probably would have just enjoyed a well-planned outing. (if you’re in a place where you can have an outing.) If you have just broken up, never been in a relation, ride the forever alone or single pringle train, these breakup songs are fantastic. Even if you are in a happy relationship they're still great songs.

Are you lonely? Do you hate Valentine's Day? Do you skip love songs?
As someone who has a chronic history of falling for emotionally unavailable men, love songs haven't always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. They used to be the songs I'd often skip when my Spotify was on shuffle. But I recently found a way to listen to them again, all while fully embracing and accepting the reality that there is no romantic love in my life.

An Anti-Love Playlist for the Single Ladies
Ladies, raise your hand if you are single! I know it can feel very lonely at times and there are days when you probably think to yourself how nice it would be to have someone by your side. February 14th is the cruel reminder that none of us (Yes I am a member of your tribe) need denoting our solo status. Instead of jamming up in the holiday hype, I thought it would be interesting perhaps even fun to explore a different approach to Valentine’s Day.
