Chapter 3 - Charles
As his truck lumbered down the gravel path, Charles watched the home he’d shared with Katherine for over a decade dwindle in the rearview mirror, swallowed quickly by the pines and other trees that enveloped the winding path leading down the mountain and away from their secluded sanctuary. As he rumbled down the glorified driveway, he could hear the sounds of work echoing through the forest surrounding their mountaintop home.

Firebug: Chapter 18 - Others
When Theo opened his eyes, he found himself staring at a speckled white drop-ceiling. The air smelled strange: a mixture of strong chemical cleaners, layered on top of the faint yet distinct odors of blood and human excrement. A soft, incessant beeping to his left broke the shaky hold that sleep still had on him, drawing his attention to the source: a sturdy, chrome pole, with a clear plastic bag of fluid hanging off it. The Book of Petch
Petch couldn't peel his black eyes away from the sky. Kelgus was smoldering in some places and burning in others. Whatever had scorched it had also appeared to melt it rock in certain places. As far as Petch could remember of his youth studies, Kelgus was home to mostly flora and fauna. The Sorian Order had sent probes to the planet several times over the last fifty or sixty years as well as a couple landing missions, but the geographic study of the planet as well as the study of plant and animal life suggested that intelligent life such as primitive tribes or civilizations, didn't exist. As every species that lived in Olna now seemed to be on the city beach staring up, Petch's left wrist lit up which he touched with the first finger of his other hand. This generated a holoscreen with Jedro's face on it.

Ritual of Fear and White Dust
*A note for the book 404: Reality Not Found I burst out of the factory, away from those glass panes where every face is a judge. Hood up – my only sanctuary, a fabric armor against the stares. A lit cigarette trembles between my fingers, headphones dug into my ears, cutting me off from a world that wants to catch me, chew me up, and spit me out. I’m walking toward the bus stop, but I’m not just walking – I’m fleeing, though no one is behind me. Or are they?
