The Marshes II
I plant my ankles firmly in the ground, close my eyes and with one slash of my sword in the empty air before me, the invisible wall disappears. I fall to the ground, but quickly rise again. I start running towards the poor woman again, hoping that I won't be intercepted by the Suru magic again. My heart is working heavy overtime, beating rapidly in my chest. My nose fills itself with the disgusting air around me. While breathable, my lungs will have a hard time getting enough oxygen.

The overpowering stench hits as I slip under the police tape and step into the squalid flat.Blood and gore splattered on peeling floral wallpaper like a Pollack painting. In the narrow kitchen the victim lays splayed unnaturally across cheap linoleum, arms and legs twisted in ways that turn my stomach. Sergeant Callahan stands grim-faced, filling me in on details while uniforms mill about uselessly.

W I T C H: Chapter 2
The day was bright, sunny, and painfully hot. So hot that at one point I stripped down to my boxers as I crouched over an old rotary fan, cranked up to full blast. I spent most of the day trying to get something down on paper. But the oppressive summer heat made it hard to concentrate, so eventually I gave up and abandoned my second-hand typewriter. After a while I looked at the clock and noticed it was almost time to leave my tiny oasis. I sighed, knowing I couldn’t put it off any longer, and forced myself to get dressed for work. While the night shift at the local museum wasn’t exactly a glamorous job, it did stave off my growing boredom by helping me come up with new ideas. Few of them were ever any good, but it helped grease the wheels of progress.
