Reece James Gets Robbed
It was meant to be another great night in the Champions League for Reece James and his Chelsea colleagues. While a dire first half had the fans at Stamford Bridge scratching their heads, Romelu Lukaku made up for it in the second forty-five with a well headed goal in the 69th minute. It was to be the only goal in a game that never really got going, however Thomas Tuchel and his charges would welcome a winning start as they attempted to defend their European crown. Offensively, it was a rather worrying display, while at the back it was another solid performance by the London side.

People enjoy immersing themselves in fantasy to get away from the stress and anxiety that many of us experience in our real lives. Some people enjoy reading fantasy such as the Harry Potter series or J.R.R. Tolkien books. Many enjoy reading graphic novels and comic books such as those by Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse. Others enjoy dressing as fantasy characters (cosplay) with outfits they make themselves. While still others enjoy playing fantasy games such as Dungeons & Dragons. A few might prefer their fantasy to be futuristic such as Star Wars or Star Trek. My favorite fantasy escape is fantasy football. I know that some of you reading this right now might be thinking that fantasy football doesn’t qualify as a fantasy world but I beg to differ.

“Viva Ronaldo, Viva Ronaldo … Running down the wing, hear United sing … Viva Ronaldo”. That was the song that made its way to the Molineux Stadium and could be heard before, during and after Manchester United’s 1-0 away victory to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Not since the end of the 2008/09 season could Manchester United fans rejoice at the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo would be wearing a shirt with their beloved badge on it. While the outpouring of joy from the public was something to behold among fans of the red devils and those that admire him; what was profound to see was the reaction on social media, the stock market and the club shops.

Racial Abuse at World Cup Qualifier Points to Deeper Societal Problems
Nobody likes a rerun, but this rerun was particularly hard to watch. Racism is the last refuge of witless morons — and sociopaths — but there was something especially disheartening about witnessing black players for England’s national team being booed, jeered and having monkey chants directed at them in last week’s World Cup qualifying game in Budapest, Hungary. The thrown bottles came later, as did the live fireworks tossed onto the pitch during one England goal celebration.
