People enjoy immersing themselves in fantasy to get away from the stress and anxiety that many of us experience in our real lives. Some people enjoy reading fantasy such as the Harry Potter series or J.R.R. Tolkien books. Many enjoy reading graphic novels and comic books such as those by Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse. Others enjoy dressing as fantasy characters (cosplay) with outfits they make themselves. While still others enjoy playing fantasy games such as Dungeons & Dragons. A few might prefer their fantasy to be futuristic such as Star Wars or Star Trek. My favorite fantasy escape is fantasy football. I know that some of you reading this right now might be thinking that fantasy football doesn’t qualify as a fantasy world but I beg to differ.

The NFL, The Jacksonville Jaguars and Bold Events
I guess some might say that I have one of the coolest jobs in the country! I am a full-time security guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars! I joined the security team in 2019 and it has been a blast of fun ever since. I am not sure that I will ever give this job up!

Chile's far-flung football outpost
At the very foot of Chile, Punta Arenas is the definition of remote. The town of 130,000 sits on the Magellan strait, opposite Tierra del Fuego. A big part of the local economy is based on providing a starting point for Antarctic expeditions, and it’s barely barely 60km from Cabo Froward, where a cross marks the southernmost point of the American landmass. Beyond lies islands, ice and eventually, the south pole.

Is the European dream over?
***This article was orginally written in November 2020*** Football has a huge following in Europe and around the world. Most of the world’s oldest (and largest) football clubs come from across Europe’s top 5 domestic leagues. Teams from England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy’s domestic leagues compete every year for millions of pounds in competition money in the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Champions League. Lower leagues from Europe also enter the competition however never really have much chance against these elite teams, nor do they attract as much in the way of revenue or viewing figures. So, it comes as no surprise that once or twice every decade we start to hear the mutterings of a new European competition coming to replace the Champions League. A huge super competition that will see only Europe’s top football teams from across its leagues playing week in, week out. But is that really what we want to see from the future of football??
