A Chair for My Mother
I am going to start sharing some children's stories that I have not read before for a book I bought years ago 'The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury' where all the stories were selected by Janet Schulman. The first story that I read is called 'A Chair for My Mother' written and illustrated by Vera B. Williams in 1982. This is the story of a small girl and her mother and grandmother. The little girls mother works as a waitress and finds out it is not easy to save money for what is needed, but they do. After the dangerous event happens one day when the little girl and mother are coming home the neighbors are come together and helps them put things back together except for one thing. Vera has drawn pictures that make you feel cozy and warm. This is one story that could be used to teach various safety rules as well.

My Scandalous Viscount
'My Scandalous Viscount' a historical romance that is based on true historical facts. Gaelen Foley has written a novel about two characters by the names of Beau and Carissa, a lord and a 'lady of information'. The two meet in the oddest manner. They both have several things they need to overcome. Gaelen has written this historical romance that even a guy would not mind reading for some of the scenes were quite interesting from the historical viewpoint.

Proverbs
I have just started reading the Book of Proverbs in my bible. In reading chapter one I have already read several old sayings as "A wise man will hear and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels." "Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices." 'The Proverbs' will make you think and make the necessary interpretations and maybe bring about your own understanding of what is read and written.

The Little Pangolin
What is a pangolin? S.D. Palm has created a children's picture book about this animal and his visit to many different areas of the country and meets many new friends. S.D. Palm is a descriptive writer that shows and tells what a pangolin is in his natural native surroundings. He shows again what this animal is all about as the little pangolin introduces himself to the other animals of Africa. S.D. Palm chose glossy pages to give the pictures a more realistic appearance in my opinion. Teachers in an early childhood program could use this book for a lesson on science and geography by showing on map where Africa is located as well as learning about Africa's environment.

Hillary and Malibug Beach
Hillary has quite the life for a ladybug. Mary Cohn, William Dandurand, and Elisabeth Revel have created a children's picture all about Hillary and her visit to Malibug Beach where she meets the neighborhood gang, then she learns the secrets of the area. Mary, William and Elisabeth created a story that kind of reminded me of a flannel board story with how the pictures of the characters kind of overlap the realistic photographs. This is an early chapter book that deals with the subject of ecology to dealing with vampires and dreams that we seem to have at one time or another. It is also about friendship and what to do when suspecting that something is not quite right.
