Why I Can't Stand Education Anymore
Honestly, for the past few weeks, I have been crying, stressed out, and exhausted over exams. Five years ago, I dreamed about going to university abroad to study architecture in one of the Ivy League schools such as Yale and Harvard to broaden my horizons and to explore new places. I used to come home from school and research university accommodation, majors and minors, and of course, admission requirements. It was my obsession.

How Much Homework Do You Have?
The American education system is putting unnecessary amounts of academic stress on their youth. Students are developing anxiety as a result of the immense pressure to do well. The thought of student debt drives students to odd wishes, like hoping for a school bus to run them over to eliminate their student loans. Caffeine has become the best friend of too many students staying up late to finish their homework.

Wikipedia
Last semester, my class in Women and Gender Studies was tasked with a project surrounding Wikipedia. When we began this project, I must admit my first thought was, “Why are we wasting our time with a site like Wikipedia?” As students, we’re taught that Wikipedia is not a reliable source and that it should never be used when doing research. This idea was so embedded in my head that it clouded my judgment and made it difficult for me to even find a topic or an article to change to begin with. I decided to start with the list of women’s right activists on Wikipedia and noticed there were very few women on it, so I did some research and Rebecca Chalker, who is a women’s activist herself, caught my attention so I decided to focus on her. I added her onto the list and even started an article about her. After reading about her I was so dumbfounded at the fact that such a prominent figure in the Women’s Rights Movement didn’t have her own page on Wikipedia. And then it hit me. How is it that a fictional character like Roger Rabbit has a well-developed page but someone like Rebecca Chalker does not? It all comes down to how our society works and how it plays down or tends to overlook the accomplishments of female identified figures while holding most male identified individuals on a silver platter, whether they’re real or part of a cartoon. Once I realized this, it was so easy to just pick any article and automatically see that in some way or another it was biased. I also decided to edit Norrie May Welby’s page, who was a trans woman but currently identifies as non-specified. I went in and corrected all the pronouns to “xie” and “hir” which are hir preferred pronouns. Even though the edits were small and minimal, the difference it made was huge in that it makes the article not only about hir but also in respect to hir. Overall, I feel like it keeps Wikipedia modern and more unbiased compared to other literature such as our textbooks.

What I Like About Somers, New York
Back in June 2013, Primrose Elementary School had every third grader put together an essay on "What I like about Somers, New York.” Blue suburban skies, ample fields of play and a close knit community, the literary types must have reveled in a day to show off their aptitude to put prose to paper. "I was not that excited," said Viktoria Barbarakis. "It was the end of the year so I didn't want to do it." But she didn't let the natural inclination to reach for summer get in the way of her inspiration and beat out 200 other students.

College Friendships vs. High School Friendships
I recently found myself in a discussion with my roommate about how our college friends are different from our high school friends, and I got to thinking: why is it that those relationships are so different? In the time from when I walked across the stage at my high school graduation to the last day of my freshman year at college, I didn't think that much had changed in my taste in friends. I would like to believe that my friends from high school would get along with my college friends—if I were to introduce them—because I figured that I had developed all of these relationships based off of certain aspects or qualities I saw within each person that drew me to them as a friend. So I figured that they would generally be a similar crowd.

Somers High School Alumni Gather to Remember Beloved Gym Teacher
Back in 2006, longtime Somers Track Coach and Phys Ed Teacher Charles Gilberti lost a extended fight with cancer. He died at the age of 67 in Las Vegas. At the Lovell Street Bar and Grill, Somers alumni and colleagues came out to pay respects soon after. They did so in a manner befitting a Somers fixture that few ever addressed as Charles or Mr. Gilberti.

Suicides in a School Setting
In 2014, the Japanese government came out with statistics regarding its suicide rate in Japan. In the land of the rising sun, 250,000 people committed suicide in that one year. That is 70 suicides a day, on average. 874 of those deaths, according to the Japanese Police Department, were students. The age range of those students were 10-19 years old.

10 Things to Remember in College
College, especially freshman year, can be the most fun part of life and the most stressful part of life. Freshman year, for many, is the first taste of the real world, and many are out on their own for the first time. Students come from all around to get a certain level of education. They will learn academics and vocational skills, but they will also take away life lessons from university. These young adults will learn social skills, independence, time management, and other things high school couldn't teach them. Freshman year of college is new and exciting, but it can also be extremely overwhelming. There are new responsibilities put on these kids, and they are on their own for the first time. Therefore, there are some key things for college students to remember if they want to stay sane.
