Holiday
The Most Wonderful Time of Year
When I was a little girl, every year immediately following Thanksgiving dinner, my mind would automatically go to one thing, Christmas time. I would beg my grandparents to get down the Christmas tree and ornaments so we could decorate them that night. After a wait, my grandpa would pull down the ladder the attic and climb up. Each year I would ask to go up to help, but would always be told no, my grandma was always sure that I would fall down the ladder.

The Inconvenient Truth
โWell, thank you so much for calling, Ms. Flanners, I will certainly talk with Melody about the incident and weโll make sure this wonโt happen again.โ Janice hung up the phone and sighed. She looked across the kitchen island at her five year old daughter who was sipping apple juice while reading an American Girl book.

Family...What Family?
Christmas is right around the corner and I'm looking forward for some well-deserved R&R alone. According to a YouGov study, 11 percent of Americans spent the holidays solo. More specifically, holidays that different people celebrate in the month of December. Recently, one of my coworkers asked what my plans are for Christmas. I replied that I was planning on spending them alone. He told me that I needed people during the holidays, but I insisted and expressed that I wanted to spend them all by myself. While his kind gesture was well-intentioned, it's okay for me to be alone.

A holiday hearth miracle
Irena pulled her coat closer to her body as the bitter cold wind bit through the flimsy, insubstantial layers of fabric. She had lost her home just as the holiday season began, adding another layer of biting chill to the already frosty air.

Dog Treats
โSit pretty Max.โ Mark smiled as the dog sat up on his haunches, front paws out as his long pink tongue dripped a bit of drool. The dog eyes danced with gleeful anticipation. โGood boy,โ Mark said with a grin. Ruffling his retrieverโs furry head, he proffered the dog treat he had been holding. Max happily, but gently, snatched it from his fingers with a silly grin. Turning, the dog darted to the back door where he waited expectantly for his owner to let him out. The dogโs soulful eyes were almost reproachful as he looked over his shoulder as if saying, โToday please.โ
