Series
Caretakers: Part 1. Top Story - December 2025.
-------- Author's Note ------- Before going any further, I would like to give a quick heads up. I'm trying something a little different with this story. In the past I've lost momentum writing longer pieces. But, this is a story I've had brewing since 2018 and I think in order to get it out there, I'm going to release it in chunks. I'm not sure how many we'll end up with but what you're about to read is a mystery/thriller set in the same town as a previous story I wrote, "Blue Heron Creek". Thank you for giving this a read and... be careful when you check into Mercy Regional Hospital... The morgue doesn't have the only thing rotten...

A Dance with Shadows
It was the hottest day of the year. Actually it was the hottest day on record. Alayia twisted her long hair up on top of her head, seeking some sort of respite from the scorching sun above her. “Curse you, mom.” she muttered, but she was looking down at the dirt path beneath her feet. As the sun god’s daughter, she knew the heat wave was mostly her fault. She had just disappeared one day while her mom was working. And she had a charm to ensure none of the other gods could see her.

Rituals and Rites
I turn, watching the sleek skirts swish smoothly about my legs. “It’s beautiful.” I whisper. “It suits you.” My soon-to-be mother-in-law says, coming up behind me with a flower wreath in her hands. She settles it into my hair, smoothing the streamers along my back. I fidget with my sleeves.

Broken Safe Haven - Chapter 2
Click here to read Chapter 1 The light of the morning sun gently brought Katelyn into consciousness. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, then looked around the room. In her groggy state, the mess of the room felt emotionally draining. She sighed, then forced herself out of bed. A shiver made her realize she had slept in her swimsuit. Luckily, the men who came had left her clothes, though they were scattered about the room. She changed into some jeans and a punk rock t-shirt. She also changed the bandages on her feet. They were swollen and ached from the cuts she had endured the day before. Unable to get shoes on them, she settled for a pair of brown fuzzy slippers that looked like dogs.
