Hell's Ten
This is part 2 in a series. If you haven't read part 1, you can find it here: Hell's Ten, Kace. Ethel had been waiting, pacing up and down as the hands of the clock moved steadily onward. Oscar always told her she didn’t have to wait up for him, but she always did, knowing the dangers that lurked in the streets of the city at night. If she had a choice, she wouldn’t have chosen to live in this part for a thousand dollars, but that was just the problem, she didn’t have a thousand dollars to spend on anywhere else. Her father had gambled it all away.

Nightmares and Dreams
Jed was crying out in his sleep. Softly sobbed protests were interspersed with scattered syllables that didn’t quite form words. He turned over, then rolled back to his original position as though he could shake off whatever it was that chased him through his dreams.

The Last Grave
James crawled out from underneath his 1964 Pontiac GTO, wiping the grease of his hands with an old rag. He gave her a loving caress on her sparkling red hood. He had been fixing the car up since he bought it from a junkyard three years ago, and she had come a long way from the rusted and neglected thing that once was. He walked around to the driver’s side and opened the door, sliding into the impeccable black leather seat. He turned the key in the ignition and smiled as it purred to life. James sat there in his own personal satisfaction, listening to her run. He sighed and slumped down in his seat, reaching into his pocket and brandishing his hunting knife.

In My Eyes: The Fall Of Troy
The war had finally come. I could feel the ground beneath my feet tremble with the pounding of thousands of Greek sandals and the drums of the ships that were bringing still more strangers to my shores in the name of war. They came for her - the Spartan queen turned Trojan princess, whom my cousin Paris had charmed away from her husband. The scorned king was determined to bring destruction to my country; to my people; to my family.

Hell's Ten
Kace went down the road towards home. There were two things weighing heavily on his mind. The first was Gall’s warning, the second the shipment of explosives he now had on his hands. When he’d bought them he’d thought to sell them again right away, for a good profit, but the coppers patrolling around the docks had quickly changed his mind. What had caused the sudden tightening of security? Would there be more raids? He passed a hand through his hair, blowing out a heavy breath. His body ached and he wanted nothing more than to get home, maybe have a hot bath, sleep for an hour or two before business called again.

The Pond That Turns to Ice
CURRENT DAY As I lay on the bitter, numbing ground, I think of all of the choices that lead to this exact moment. I stare up at the sombre night sky, empty of the stars that graced its presence only yesterday evening. The wind is fierce, it roars and bellows at me for being so mindless, then it passes through the entirety of my body, leaving me breathless and unable to think clearly. I watch the illusion of smoke leave my lips with every breath that I take. It reminds me of the times as a child when my sister and I would pretend that we were smokers, it briefly warms my body to remember her face. I wonder if the trees can sense my desperation as they sway furiously from side to side. I try to find something to focus on to stop my mind from fixating on the cause of the throbbing sensation I feel in my feet, I know what is happening but if I pretend that it isn’t, maybe it won’t.
