Admiral Jorgenson of the Royal Swedish Navy knocks on the massive front door of Castle Innaeus.
"Do come in, Admiral," a voice says. "We've been expecting you. The masters are out at the moment. A table is prepared for you in the banquet hall with a letter from Mr. Viceroy also to explain his absence and the work he's done on your behalf so far. If you'll follow me."
Admiral Jorgenson has seen much in his long service but he hasn't seen everything. A large black cat leading him through a castle on the coastal hills of Ireland is definitely a new experience. In the corner is a small table set for one with an envelope on his plate.
"If you'd be so kind as to read the letter, the staff and I will bring your food out shortly," the cat says.
"Adm. Jorgenson,
"It is with regret my family and I are not there to greet you in person. However, we've been far afield searching for an answer to your problem. As you know, much of the Library of Alexandria was destroyed long ago. Tracking down the lost volumes, though my wife and I's shared passion, has been an arduous endeavor. We believe though, we've found an ancient text on "upyrs" under an old farmhouse in Greece that may help with your current predicament. There's a species of the creature whose menace you are suffering from that does not need total darkness in which to thrive. We'll be arriving shortly with the tome and a few other instruments vital to your mission, along with our own expertise in such matters. Jack, the black house cat that will greet you, and the castle's own defenses, seen and unseen, will keep you safe and comfortable until our arrival."
Sincerely,
The Viceroys
