Gonjiam Haunted Asylum is a Haunting Found Footage Film

This is one of the few found footage films that I will never watch again.

I had seen this movie years ago, about 4 years ago, I believe. This film traumatized me so much, that I struggled to even watch all of the scenes taking place. This is one of those films I consider to be 'ugly scary' which means it scared the shit out of me. This movie messed with my head, and I was afraid of dark spaces for perhaps one day.

Even though it was such a short amount of time, this movie made me question if anything was following me around, and I couldn't stand this awful feeling. It's a very simple film, but the scares are so EFFECTIVE.

The way that these people suffered was so uncalled for, and I think only one dude actually deserved it. These young people wanted to do a live broadcast, to get views through YouTube, and become famous. Their asshole boss/leader was a total piece of shit in the movie. I felt that out of all of them, he was the most determined to make his dreams come true, while the rest of the group was excited to work on a project like this.

The whole group suffers an awful fate, and I felt that only the boss deserved his own fate.

I sort of remember what happened, but man, their fates were so cutthroat. The asylum was indeed cursed, and the group was trying so hard to get any sort of real footage for YouTube, so that they could gain a fanbase. Things immediately go to shit when the boss is studying the footage, and realizes that no one was holding the camera during one part of their journey.

He freaks out over this information, and things instantly go wrong for the group. Everyone starts to die in the worst ways imaginable, and I struggled to watch all of their death scenes.

There were two scenes in this movie that got me so bad. The first scary scene involves two girls, who were trying to find a way out of the asylum by trying to escape through the woods. One of the girls becomes possessed, and my heart stopped when her eyes became a pure black, and she chased after the other girl, making creepy sounds.

That was one of the worst scary scenes in a horror film I have ever seen, and now that scene really proved to me that I will never camp out in the woods.

Every single person suffers an awful fate, leaving only the boss alive.

And what does this idiot do?

He leaves the safety of his tent, located outside of the asylum, and goes into the haunted building to look for the crew. All because he was pissed with how they suddenly vanished without finishing up the footage.

The leader could have survived, but he chose to run inside the asylum, getting the same fate as his own crew.

Dude runs into the asylum with his own camera to use as light, and he gets an awful death, which was the second scare that made me cry out of fear. A woman floating backwards appeared in the footage right behind him, and screamed. I think the guy was dragged offscreen, sealing his fate.

I can't stand ghosts floating backwards in horror movies. It's so unnatural to watch, and it gets me every time. The green lighting was perfect for that scene, and it really sold the scare even more.

I can't believe that everyone paid the price. I don't think anyone deserved to die, except for the asshole boss. I could be wrong on this statement, but I think the crew were actually good people, compared to the guy in charge of the operation.

It was kind of ironic how they actually got a lot of views from the footage, but their fans were mostly saying that the footage was fake, calling the team a joke.

What was so insane, is that the footage was actually real.

That was the perfect urban legend ending right there.
