MASCARA KILLER

INTRODUCTION

In a small town named, Suffolk, Texas there lived an old man named Travis. He was a fearless man who used to work at his farm close to his house. He had crops grown in his backyard, as well as in surrounding areas. He had bought a few acres of land around his house to grow his farm. Also, he had bought land on a separate place near his house, where he had built another farm. He was a wealthy man in his times, who didn’t really like to go in crowds. In his street, there were less houses as compared to other streets, and the reason behind why he bought the land in surrounding of his house was so no one builds houses next to his house. He was a person who only liked peace and calmness. He lived at his house with his wife Bella, along with his 16 years old son, William.

The couple only had one child, Bella was his third wife, the previous 2 had left him due to some issues. Travis was really attached to Bella and loved her more than anything in the world, Bella would usually help him with the farm at times. Travis had started to train William to use the farming machinery, and to fix some small mechanical issues which could be commonly seen while running the machinery. Travis and Bella were extroverts who liked to socialize with new people but Travis was a complete introvert who avoided interacting with people. Not because he wasn’t comfortable, but he just didn’t want to. Travis was frustrated from his everyday life because it was as if the days were repeating, following the same routine every day, doing almost the same things every day.

William was sent to school, but he wasn’t fond of learning. He wanted to become a farmer like his dad but both his parents wanted him to become an engineer. In his early days at school, he had a tough time convincing his parents to make him not go to school, but it was of no use. He used to score good in the early years of school, but from time to time, his grades started to drop as he didn’t study much. He would come back from school, have his meal and go to the farm. In the evening, he usually went out with his friends, and would come back during dinner time. Right after that, he would crash the bed. At the present times, William started skipping school and his parents knew that he would drop out any year now.

Travis used to water his farm daily in the morning before having breakfast, he would observe every grown crop. After breakfast, he used to go to his other farm where he had kept cattle as well. A man named Adam used to work at the farm, he was a supervisor as Travis couldn’t manage both the farms along with the cattle. As it was a small town, the population there was low, most of the people knew each other. All the neighbors knew each other, and Travis was famous that he doesn’t attend any neighbor gatherings, nor conducts them. Whenever there was a party or a gathering at someone’s house, Travis would pretend that he’s sick so he wouldn’t have to go. While, only Bella and William used to go, and excuse for Travis.

Everyone knew his nature so no one really said anything. At times, Travis would send vegetables to his neighbors when the crops were ready. He mostly sent his vegetables to a nearby city and would make quite a lot of profit from it.

A couple of months went by, and everything was the same. At night time, after dinner, Travis would sit on the porch on his rocking chair while listening to the radio and having beer. He used to spend almost an hour there before going to his room to sleep. This was something new in his routine. He used to clear everything in his head in the quietness. At times, his wife used to join him to talk about William’s future. They both were worried that he’ll quit his studies soon and wouldn’t become an engineer like they both wanted him to be. Travis had an idea in his head, he had a friend who was a counselor, he sent William to him thinking that He might be able to help.

It was of no use, William didn’t change his mind at all. A year passed by and William was dropped out of school. His parents were sad but they already knew what was going to happen, they saw it coming. Travis gave him work, and that was at the other farm. It was William’s job to take care of the other farm now. Travis accepted the fact that his son is also going to become a farmer, so he started to train him. While William was at the other farm to help Adam, Travis had told Adam to teach William farming.

A few weeks passed by and it was fall now, just before the winters. In Suffolk, fall was the most beautiful season ever. All the trees and plants turned yellow, leaves and fruits falling on the ground. Autumn has a very unique smell of its own, it’s a pricky, dry smell that you can smell in the mornings. Travis really liked autumn and used to find it very pleasing. A month after that, winters had come and there was a change in Travis’s mood, it was something Bella knew for a long time. Whenever winters would come’ Travis’s mood would change as he didn’t like winters at all.

During winters, the area is really cold and fog spreads around during the night making the visibility quite low. During the day, Travis used to spend as much time in the farm as possible, taking caring of his crops because he couldn’t work after sunset. He wasn’t a fan of winters as everything is dry and cold. Also, because he has to take more care of his crops, as it snows and has to shovel every day. Travis used to work all day long, and after he was done, Bella used to make hot chocolate which they both enjoyed every night in front of the fire. William used to stay in his room, or with his friends spending less and less time with his family. It didn’t bother his parents because he was growing up.

Ever since the winter started, there were unusual killings that had been recently started around the town. Every victim had something common, there were tears drawn using a Mascara. It is believed that they’re drawn by the killer after they are done murdering it target. The people of the town have name this person “The Mascara Killer”. Everyone tried their best to stay in their homes at nights, and never go out alone because they can become the next victim of the killer. Travis and Bella had sent William to his uncle, who lived in the city. Some of the people from the town had fled to cities or to other towns to prevent themselves from becoming the victims. It was a smart move. Bella convinced Travis to send William to his uncle with great efforts because Travis was a fearless man and he wasn’t going to leave his home because of some stupid killer.

He cleaned his shotgun, which was buried in the attic for years, also he got new ammo for it. He started keeping it with him at all times in case the killer appeared from somewhere. Once, in the newspaper it was said that the killer had instructed all the citizens to play jazz music all the time at night in order to not become the victim of the killer. This was in an article which was published in the newspaper by someone anonymously. Since then, everyone except Travis started playing jazz music at all time.

Bella instructed Travis to play it many times but he wouldn’t listen. At times, Bella started playing the music but Travis always turned it off. When Travis wasn’t home, Bella played the music all the time but as soon as Travis returned, he would turn it off and tell her to not play this garbage music because some lunatic told them to. His mindset was that the killer is making them the victim and trying to rule over them, but people shouldn’t be afraid of this killer, instead they should work together to hunt this psycho killer together. But no one listened to him as they didn’t want to risk their and family lives. They just wanted to survived and were ready to listen to whatever the killer told them to. Adam, who used to work on Travis’s other farm, left the job and fled from the town. Now Travis didn’t have anyone to work for him so he had to take care of both the farms dividing his time equally.

He was also searching for someone new, offering more than he used to pay Adam. After a few days, a guy named Philip appeared for the job. Travis interviewed him and then hired him, he agreed to provide food and shelter to Philip on the farm.

One cold winter night, Travis was sitting on his porch sipping on his beer late at night, while listening to the radio. It was about the killings that recently started happening in the town of Suffolk. The weird thing is that the people in the town are instructed by the killer to play jazz music all the time even if they don’t like it. No one knows the logic behind that, but the killer is always wandering around at night, and whenever it sees someone who isn’t playing music or wandering alone , the mysterious person kills them in a very horrible way. Currently, the killer was out looking for it next victim. As Travis is hearing all this, he scoffed, then continued drinking and ranting on about this killer and all that’s been going on. He was someone who wasn’t playing jazz music, he’s the type of person who doesn’t takes orders from anyone. Ever since the killing started, Travis didn’t stop his routine of sitting on the porch after dinner, instead, he started taking his shotgun out keeping it for safety.

As night goes on, he sees a dark figure standing in a distance just staring at him. Travis pulled his shotgun closer to him, but then played it off of him being drunk. Travis had something in his mind, and he was worried that the killer might hurt his family but also, he was ready to take care of them. Travis stayed out longer that night, and drunk more beer than usual making him fall asleep on his chair. While he was asleep, his shotgun fell down from his lap but he didn’t notice that due to the alcohol. Right after that, footsteps of someone approaching the house could be heard, but Travis was in a deep sleep not hearing the the dark figure walk right passed him, into his house through the screen door. Bella heard the screen door open and shut, she called out to him to see if he done for the night and is ready for dessert that she made for him, but she got no response. She walked into the living room from the kitchen but didn’t see anyone there, she turned around to head back to the kitchen and saw a figure standing in front of the door way.

That’s when a loud scream could be heard from a distance as Travis slept away in his drunken state not hearing the screen door open and slammed shut next to him as Bella scream echo throughout the farm. Almost an hour and half later, Travis woke up and went inside the house to grab another beer while taking his shotgun with him. As he walk through the door he slips and fall on the hard wooden floor. He grimaced as he twisted his ankle from the fall; as Travis sat up he felt something wet on the wooden floor, as he look down in pain from falling on his ankle; in front of him laid his wife Bella dead, with a very terrified look on her face. Travis saw that her arm was reaching out to the door as if she was running for the the main door to get to him but was struck from the behind. Travis shakily got up to observe the body, and to his horror he see that she was struck multiple times with an axe all over her body in a very brutal way as if the killer has no intentions of letting her go quietly. There was blood all around the room as the killer was taking it time with her, but most of all that he noticed on Bella body clear as day there was dark Mascara drawn on her face for tears. The signature of the infamous “The Mascara Killer” was here.
