"Are you almost ready?" Stefan called from the hallway. "Yes, honey, just finishing up. You won't be late for work this time. Sorry about yesterday," Kaori called from the bathroom as she put the finishing touches of her make-up on to get ready for work herself.

Halloween Memories and Epic Costumes Using Papier-mâché . Top Story - October 2021.
One of my favorite memories from Halloween past involves making papier-mâché masks with my dad & brother when I was a kindergartner. Looking back, it’s really impressive that my father undertook such an ambitious project with his children who were only five and two years old. Instead of taking us to the store to buy some of those flimsy plastic cape and mask combos that passed as “costumes” for children in the mid-1970s, dad took on the daunting task of engaging his young children in a creative activity that spanned several days.

Space Vampire
He was looking at the night sky. It was clear, and all the stars glowed brighter than usual. The cold air blew and it brought chills with it. At first, the cold effect made sense, but then, he felt another wave, a colder wave; he remembered something. He remembered a story that his father told him when he badgered him, as kids do, to tell him something scary before going to sleep. Why something scary? He couldn't remember.

Lonely Lake
It was a red boat and it attacked people at Lonely Lake. People would be swimming in the alcoves of the lake, and the boat would attack. It ran over people anytime it wanted to. If there was a waterskier and he fell down into the water of Lonely Lake or there was a woman waterskier who fell, the red boat would run over them, and its propeller would chop them up until they were hard to look at, and their stories were hard to hear. If there was a fisherman just wading in the shallow parts of Lonely Lake, the boat would attack. It would go by as if just boating and then it would attack the fisherman. It attacked boats sometimes and ran into them and cut them in half, and when the people spilled into the water of Lonely Lake, the red boat would turn in determined circles until it had run over all of the people even if they were screaming for help. If they were calling, the boat still ran over them. It attacked at night or in the daytime. In the evening people listened. It was scary at night on Lonely Lake, but the days were just as dangerous. It attacked canoes and rowboats and it attacked the old scout troop in their inner tubes. The red boat was the worst thing about Lonely Lake. If someone mentioned Lonely Lake, then someone also said red boat.

One Step Too Far
Amie McGregor had been a pain in my ass for as long as I can remember. She lived to make my life a nightmare. I have always lived by the rule that you should treat others the way you want them to treat you. Which meant that I had to be the bigger person, a lot. In Amie’s case I was always the bigger person but this time she had gone too far.

Night Shift
I’ve seen a lot in my tenure as night porter at a grimy hotel with a reputation for paranormal activity. So when the new manager, an emaciated man with sallow skin and a timorous voice, starts making a fuss about Halloween falling on a full moon this year, I slide my headphones over my ears and pretend to pay attention while he goes on frightening the doe-eyed day shifters.

The Graveyard Smash Challenge... My Way!
Halloween is one of many festivities in which we celebrate life, based on a certain tradition. We all know a party isn’t a party without great music that fits the occasion. In this case, we’re talking about Halloween. Scary energy, right? It invokes the supernatural, the spiritually unknown...the dark side, they call it. We celebrate ghosts, cemeteries, and spirits that live in carved pumpkins. Black cats are more ominous now than any other time of year, yet they still make a fine costume idea. Many people visit other aspects of themselves through costumes and costume parties, which brings me back to the subject at hand. Music that fits the occasion. The songs in my Graveyard Smash playlist address all kinds of scary, from paranormal fear factors to flat-out-scary people. It is also a collective of old skool, throwback spooky jams that stir the mystery within as you dance. Enjoy more about them below..

Spooky Halloween Party Playlist
Best Halloween Party Music The important thing to remember when choosing music for a Halloween party is not to get to lost in your choices. One song can easily lead to another similar song, then another, and next thing you know, you have played nine movie/tv theme songs in a row. You want to vary it up. Appeal to different types of people, and there can be no doubt that each song belongs on a Halloween playlist. There are several songs that may have a creepy musical cord transition or haunting lyrics, but there are only a few songs that really connect with Halloween. Sting’s “Murder by Numbers” and “Every Breath You Take” have interesting lyrics, but I don’t really don’t associate them with Halloween. There are songs that mention Halloween Icons, but still don’t belong on a Halloween party list. I wouldn’t play “Voodoo Child” or “Witch Doctor” even though they are great songs, because they really don’t scream Halloween to me. I also associate several instrumental pieces of music that I do connect to Halloween, but i would not play at a party. I think of Hannibal Lecter, when I hear “Aria da Capo” but I wouldn’t be confident that others would make the same connection. When I hear the theme of Jaws, I think of Jaws and not Halloween. Neither of these songs belong at a dance party. For my Halloween Playlist, every song needs to be undeniably appropriate for the festivities.

Angel or Demon?
This bath is long overdue. I deserve this. I have been waiting for this all week. My Friday night bath is a routine of mine that I hardly skip. I can’t say never because there are always exceptions to the rule. Like tonight. The bath is later than usual because I went out to an after work spot with some colleagues. The vibe was cool and the music was right, but I look forward to my self care Friday nights which means I try not to stay out past 10. The steam from the running water has turned the mirror foggy and the bathroom hot. I begin to undress and I think of the man with whom I exchanged numbers. He was a fine brother who smelled so good. He wore Prada Black and I think it’s lingering on my clothes. He was successful too and we worked in the same neighborhood, I wouldn’t mind going for lunch.
