A Fool's Game
Mark let off the gas as the victorian era mansion emerged through the parted trees, his nerves were full of static, and he found it hard to focus. He never wanted to return to this place, and honestly he wanted to turn around and go home. Greed, however, was slowly overwhelming his sense of discomfort. Succumbing to the sunken cost of the drive, and the promise of fortune, he drove on. The twenty grand in the bank was nothing more than bait, and despite the oppressive feeling that nothing good would come from this, Mark was ready to swallow the hook.

The Ashen Horse
She quietly chuckled as she read the morning papers out of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They had brazen stories about how ‘The Ashen Horse Strikes Again’. She, of course was on the other side of the country having left early the previous morning. The stories reported how the killer had brutalized the two victims. She really thought that was quite unfair, she had been surprisingly efficient and clean in her work. They barely suffered; all things considered. Rumors had it that he deserved three times what he got if half the stories were reliable.

The Ashen Horse
The assassin slowly watched the sunset over the coastline. She was patiently awaiting the dark, for it was the dark when she came alive. The rest of the time she was just an imposter, but it was in the night when she was her true self. Only in the silence of the night.

Blackout
Billy’d died, so he was out. Two left. I couldn’t see what’d killed him, not until I flipped him over. A deep stab wound at the base of the skull, ripped sideways to create a ragged flap. God only knows what she’d done it with. His needle was missing. Shit. Billy made four; Jane wasn’t fucking around. Back home, any needle violation was a summary decant, with a thousand compressed hours of behavior therapy thrown in to make sure you learned from the mistake.

An odd beginning
I have been hearing of my own death for months now as though it had already happened. The inhabitants of the other apartments walk past my door each day gossiping of how I died, each time more or less different in some way. It's funny how the word of mouth works, huh?

Nocturnal Witness
This night was no different than a handful of nights before. Many moons in between, yes, but the feathered one had already been a witness. Nearly ten feet below, a struggle ensued, one-sided as it was. Outside, the wind alternately roared and whispered through the trees, sounds from the most visceral nightmares. As the temperatures dropped, the diffident fowl sought warmth in the tightest rafters of the barn. The familiar face below belonged to a man in his forties, with a slight build, hunched over, and fighting to drag a cumbersome object inside the barn. Under the night raptor's watchful green eyes, the recognizable man revealed a body beneath him.

White Owl
Sitting around telling scary stories, Dan, Lexie, Stan, Susan, and Joseph listen as Lori tells her story! " The Legend states that anyone that sees a white owl fly in the moonlight anytime there is a full moon, will surely die! The last time we had a full moon, there were three people that actually took a picture of it, they posted it and shortly after it was posted, they were all found dead! So I suggest that you do not look at the moon tomorrow night because if you do and and that white owl flies in the moonlightwhile you are watching, your fate will be sealed!"

The Call
The autumn night air blew through the trees making them sway from side to side like dancing ghosts in the night. Those who lived in the neighborhood were all young professionals that worked in the business district nearby. The majority of them had all gone out to Halloween parties, but not Alice.

Intruder In The House
Erika jolted up, she looked around the darkening living room. She could've sworn she had heard the Jefferson's in the kitchen, but the only light came from the television. It could've been their son Henry, trying to play a prank on her, it had to be Henry, and Erika was going to get extremely angry, as she had sent him to bed two hours ago. "Henry?" She called, but only silence answered her. A sinking feeling washed over Erika, "Henry, I swear if you're trying to scare me, I'm going to be extremely angry." She called. "And will never admit it's working." She whispered as she headed for the kitchen.

Watch Out
It was June 17, 2015, and there I was walking down the streets of San Francisco. It was a nice sunny day that causes me to slowly start dripping sweat down my back. I moved to town last weekend and I came out to the city in search of new job as a chef. I went to every restaurant that was near but none of them appealed to me. It was starting to get dark outside but I decided to check out one last restaurant before returning home. When I walked in, I couldn’t help but notice the most handsome and amusing person I’ve ever seen before. I was so distracted watching him serve people their meals that I forgot I was looking for a job and not a future husband. Caught in the moment, I thought to myself, “I have to get to know him, I have to know everything about him”. He looked charming but yet shy, like he was lost but trying to find himself. I knew that I needed to get a job at this restaurant.
