Netflix And Chill Out: How I Kept My Long Distance Relationship Alive
Moving abroad can be a struggle for anyone, let alone when you don't speak the language, you're horrible with directions, and you'll be leaving your nearest and dearest behind. Believe me though, relationships can survive that short hop over the ocean and a small plane ride — don't ask me about further away, Berlin to Manchester is only a two-hour flight. Where 2016 has been a year of sadness and death for many, I strived to keep my relationship alive and make the most out of a difficult situation. I don't expect any medals, but I am accepting bouquets of flowers.

Kiss The Ones You Love
They were all in a line. Twenty-two of them. Twenty-two frogs all sitting, patiently in a neat row is a weird enough sight. Facing them was a boy in a freshly unflatpacked wheelie office chair. He was staring at each frog with a casual but considerate eye, one after the other. This one had a wart or a lump close to its eye so it made its face look wonky. That one had a tattered and broken looking foot. Another one had some sort of little tail. Further down the line was one that only stared at the floor. He felt bad for that one. It could have some social disorder, and here he is forcing it to sit in a row with a big bundle of other frogs. The boy wheeled to it. No, not it. Him. The boy wheeled closer to...Simon. The moment his chair stopped the boy picked him up, with little gloves on. He heard the heat of skin burns frogs. The frog flinched a bit, but settled quickly. Then the boy kissed it. Not a long kiss, certainly no tongue. Neither party seemed to enjoy it. It was a light peck and that was all. The moment it was done the frog was placed back in the line.

You Don't Need No Man (Or Woman)
So I know many of us single or taken see so many couples and romance movies/stories and feel as though there is this “pressure” to be in love or in a relationship. Well, I’m here to squash that idea. As you go through different stages of your life, especially in high school and college, you watch TV series where high school students are focused on trying to get with a guy or trying to get with a girl; because of this, we put so much time and effort into trying to be with someone and fall in love. Since a young age, we are exposed to the realities of how important it is to be in love with someone or have a boyfriend or girlfriend. But these shows don't have much content where the moral of the story is being single or focusing on self-goals. Not only TV series but all media outlets encourage this idea of being in a relationship or being in love, in books, in songs, even magazines where you see new about celebrities, most of the time it is around some subject of love. I myself, have been a victim of this, listening to the lyrics of love songs and wishing that I can find the man of my dreams and be madly in love. Or that Ill go out somewhere and fall in love with someone just from the sight of them across a room. When in reality I was just living in a fantasy world, my expectations of love was unrealistic, and I should have put more time and effort into bettering myself and figuring out what my goals are, and not worry about boys or love.

Judging Through "White Eyes"
Let me start with this... I am an American Black male and I have been all of my life. Now that that is out of the way I'll continue with my rant. It's not fair! It's not fair and I don't know who is at fault! Is it my own psyche or insecurities? Is my dismay and anger justified because my feelings are a result of self-hate born from oppression? My lack of clarity only adds to my angst, confusion, and frustration. Many American Black people, so I have been told, view the world and the interactions within through "white eyes." It's an utter curse that causes the afflicted to become judgmental, condescending, and negative about the other Black folks.
