A Simple Guide to Understanding Our Journey on Earth

Have you ever looked up at the stars at night and wondered, "Why am I here?" Or maybe you've just woken up on a normal morning and thought, "What is the point of all this?" These are big questions, and every human being, young or old, asks them at some point. It's like being given a toy without instructions and trying to figure out what it's for.

Well, this story is about those instructions. It's about understanding why we are here in this big, beautiful world and what our purpose, our Maqsad-e-Hayat, truly is.

More Than Just Eating and Sleeping

Imagine a small plant. Its purpose is to grow, make flowers, and then seeds to make more plants. Or think of a watch. Its purpose is to tell time. Everything around us has a purpose. So, why would humans, the most amazing creation, be here just to eat, sleep, work, and then pass away? It feels like there must be something more, doesn't it?

The truth is, we are here for a much bigger reason. It's a journey, a test, and a chance to do something truly special.

1. To Know Our Creator God (Allah)

The first and most important reason we are here is to know our Creator, Allah. Just like a painter makes a beautiful painting, and we look at it and appreciate the painter, Allah has created this amazing universe. The sun, the moon, the mountains, the oceans, and even the tiny ant—they all show us the power and wisdom of Allah.

Our purpose is to see these signs, to think about them, and to understand that there is one God who made everything. When we realize this, our hearts become peaceful. We start to understand that we are not alone, and there is a loving, all-powerful being watching over us.

2. To Worship and Be Grateful

Once we know our Creator, the next step is to worship Him and be grateful. Worship doesn't just mean praying five times a day. It means living our whole life in a way that pleases Him.

Be grateful: Thank Allah for everything—your eyes, your ears, your family, your food, your health. When you are grateful, you feel happier, and Allah gives you more.

Be good: Worship also means being a good person. Treating others with kindness (Akhlaq), helping those in need, telling the truth, and avoiding bad things. These are all ways of worshipping Allah.

Think about it: when you do something good for someone, like helping a friend with homework or sharing your food, how do you feel? You feel good, right? That feeling is a small taste of the reward of doing good deeds for Allah.

3. To Be a "Khalifa" – A Caretaker of the Earth

Allah has given us a very special job: to be His "Khalifa," or caretaker, on Earth. What does a caretaker do? They look after things. They make sure everything is clean, safe, and growing well.

Our purpose is to take care of this beautiful planet, not to destroy it. It means:

Protecting animals and nature.

Using resources wisely, not wasting them.

Building good societies, not spreading evil.

Making the world a better place for everyone, not just ourselves.

When we act as caretakers, we bring justice, peace, and goodness to the world. We become a source of comfort and help for others, just like Allah is the source of all comfort.

4. To Face Tests and Grow Stronger

Life is full of tests. Sometimes we are sick, sometimes we lose money, sometimes we face problems in our family (like my own journey of waiting for children). These tests are not to punish us; they are to make us stronger and bring us closer to Allah.

Like a student who takes exams to move to a higher class, we go through hardships to grow spiritually. When we face problems with patience (Sabr) and trust in Allah, we learn valuable lessons. We learn to appreciate the good times, and we learn to rely on Allah alone. This makes our purpose clear: to pass these tests with faith and never lose hope.

The Beautiful Connection

So, why are we here? We are here to live a life that connects us to our Creator, to His creation, and to our own true selves. We are here to make a positive difference, even if it's a small one.

My own journey, from the depths of depression to finding peace, and the ongoing wait for children, has taught me these lessons deeply. It taught me that even in silence, there is purpose. Even in waiting, there is growth.

Conclusion: Live with Purpose

So, the next time you look up at the stars, remember: you are not here by accident. You have a grand purpose. You are here to know Allah, to worship Him by being a good human, to take care of His Earth, and to face life's tests with patience.

When you live with this purpose in your heart, every day becomes meaningful. Every act of kindness becomes an act of worship. And every challenge becomes a step towards something greater. This is the simple, yet profound, reason why we are here.
