Roly Botha is a wonderful human. Anyone who has met or worked with them will tell you the same. Roly is an actor, composer and theatermaker. We met for this interview in a cafe in Victoria train station, and whilst listening to the audio I realised- not just that I shouldn’t interview and eat at the same time- but also that I am immensely lucky I am to have met Roly at this moment in time.

Vittoria Rizzardi Peñalosa
I first met Vittoria Rizzardi Peñalosa while she was studying her Law degree in London: she and I were attending classes at the same actors workshop, though in different classes. And while we circled around each other for nearly a year, ironically we never truly talked about work until she had left the country. During her time in London, I remember her as an actress, and a stunning one at that, with a powerful presence and a fluidity of movement that seems to evade all but the most secure individuals. It’s this power and fluidity that has carried forward into her work as a Producer, Director and Writer.

Misha Butler
This is going to sound a bit pretentious, (but please stick with me). As a rule when writing these articles I try not to label individuals as anything other than their professions; writers, artist, filmmaker etc. I try to leave labels and genders at the door and focus on the work of the individual. However it is an undeniable truth that creatives throughout all of history have drawn inspiration and power from both their struggles and their journeys toward self acceptance. For Misha Butler an actor and writer, his career, work and identity have, so far, been inseparable from the fact that he is a Trans-Actor, and as such our interview was largely influenced by discussions on gender and the role it plays, as well as the roles he is now looking forward to playing.

IT WAS AGREED AFTER FOUR MONTHS of physical therapy in a wading pool and injections and brace for immobilization ordered by occupational therapists that were sure to "allow for strengthening broken and fractured bone and prevent further damage." The decision to opt for a transfer to an alternate government department in an available open position with comparable pay while avoiding excess strain beyond doctor's recommended lifting was finally at end. The injured employee mandated to attend the meeting was sent through the loops to collect the most up to date documentation for a lateral transfer of her job title and employee number. The state personnel records office provided copies of the open job posting from among it's many flyers and the results of mandatory application, stamped and filed with the signed acceptance of her application for the position by the new department. Her interview had been successful. There was only the need to finalize the determination to make the trade... transition an employee from office assistant to office clerk with her signed approval for an annual pay cut of $1000. Trading off from working secure spaces at a tax recording office to deep files maintained on the state's incarcerated population are each critical in their own accord, both demanding a qualified level of confidentiality. Despite a record of qualifying confidential background examinations by FBI, BOI and military agencis, she was blacklisted for the position; recalled from working. The first day of working the position had gone smoothly, she got along well with the staff in the new office but was recalled by co workers at the old office with no explanation.
