HOW SLEEP DEPRIVATON IS AFFECTING YOU BRAIN !
you know that awful feeling you get when you're sleep-deprived your brain feels fuzzy your body aches with fatigue and you could literally fall asleep anywhere in our modern fast-paced society it's become a common struggle to get a full night's rest and while you may think that a simple cup of coffee or an occasional energy drink will cure your tiredness researchers are now finding that sleep deprivation can have a far more serious consequence on your body than you might think so why do we sleep virtually every creature on earth sleeps in it's a vital process for our continued survival while it may appear that sleep is simply a time for our bodies to shut down the reality couldn't be more different there are two main ways in which we benefit from sleep our physical health and our mental health while we sleep our bodies take the time to repair and rejuvenate themselves human growth hormone is released which allows muscles to grow damage to tissues to be replaced other hormones to be produced and for the cells to prepare themselves for the following days activities the brain uses this time to sift through all of the information it has collected throughout the day and process it and decide what's important and needs to be retained and what is irrelevant further to this the brain performs physical repairs on itself as well the neurons in the brain are refreshed and restored by two different types of glial cells often thought of as the support structure of the nervous system microglia cells are responsible for removing neurons that have become old wore worn out by a process known as phagocytosis which means devour in greek the other type of glial cells the astrocytes altered the synapses which connected neurons to ensure that their structure is as efficient as possible so what if we don't get enough sleep a study conducted in Italy looked at mammalian brains during sleeping Wow they were sleep deprived and found stark similarities between what was going on they noticed that in sleep-deprived brains the glial cells were still functioning but in an elevated and seemingly uncontrolled way their experiments involved four test groups of mice the first group would act as the control and be allowed to sleep normally the second group wore walking up from their sleep at regular intervals Wow the third group represented sleep deprivation and were kept awake for an extra eight hours and the fourth group represented chronic sleep deprivation and were kept awake for five days in a row the researchers didn't looked at the activity of the astrocytes cells they saw activity in 5.7% of the synapses of the well-rested brings and is 7.3 percent of the synapses in the spontaneously awake brains but it was the sleep-deprived brains that surprised researchers the most in these cells the astrocytes had taken on a new role and started to behave like micro glial cells actually devouring the synapses instead of rewiring them in the sleep-deprived brains dust was seeing in 8.4 percent of the synapses and in the chronically sleep-deprived rings it was seeing in 13.5 percent of them the researchers also noted that the synapses that tend to be involved were the largest and the oldest ones which isn't necessarily a bad thing in the short term this process could help clean out harmful debris and to remove worn-out connections and whatever the new ones to thrive but in the long term this is a problem because uncontrolled the microbial activity has been linked to Alzheimer's and other degenerative brain conditions this could explain why a lack of sleep seems to make people more vulnerable to these illnesses beyond this there are a number of other health issues that can arise if you don't get enough sleep you may start to experience memory problems sore muscles headaches and irritability you have an increased risk of diabetes and depression your blood pressure can rise and you get sick more often and you can even experience hallucinations in conclusion even though it's something that we all do and quite frankly can't live without there's still a lot about sleep that we don't fully understand well getting more sleep over time help to reverse the effects were protect a brain from a few sleepless nights studies are continually showing that sleep disorders are linked to many other conditions and this reinforces how important it is for us to sleep well in this day and age as perhaps more important than ever to do so but we really do need to try otherwise there could be serious consequences for our health later down the road thank you all so much for watching this video if you enjoy it make sure to give us a like or a comment down hello see you next time

just imagine what life would be without the internet some of us actually remember the time before everything was connected but the thought of living without smartphones maps where search engines ran at our fingertips now seems completely alien to us but how is our increasing reliance on the online world affecting us our relationships sources of information in the way we interact with each other is rapidly changing and there are even noticeable effects occurring within our brains with more and more devices relying on the internet it's no surprise that worldwide access is continually increasing in 2016 an estimated 3.5 billion people across the world access online services the top three countries were China with 721 million users followed by India and then the US with 290 million users by far the most common language used online is English followed by Chinese and Spanish the reliance on using the Internet is clearly changing across generations mainly depending on those who had to adapt to the new technology or those who grew up with that being readily accessible Generation X Internet users who were born between the mid 1960s and early 1980s logged an average of a hundred and ten minutes of mobile internet usage each day while Millennials who were born from the early 80s onward and grew up with the internet locked in the average of a hundred and eighty five minutes per day social media and messaging apps have become crucial to how we live our lives and communicate with more than a billion people regularly using apps like whatsapp and even more using platforms such as Facebook and Twitter now with increasing use of Internet services it seems only natural that our behavior is changing as well communication through these platforms is far more common which means phone calls and text messages are dropping in popularity and the use of online shopping and services has caused a sharp decline in the uses of traditional high street stores our towns and cities are starting to look very different to a few decades ago and this can all be attributed to what's now available online so how is all this affecting our brains with such a wealth of information at our fingertips the prevalence of the Internet is changing away our work millenials for example have been found to be far more forgetful than previous generations this is thought to be a direct result of the constant distractions that connectivity brings the basic principle behind memory is that the more a piece of information is repeated and thought about in your short-term memory the stronger its stored within your long-term memory constant new information however prevents this process from taking place as effectively and far less is permanently stored further to this the knowledge that information is readily available online means that you're less likely to form a memory of it while previous generations would have memorized directions on a map for example now there's a reliance on being able to access this GPS app on your fault we're also becoming more addicted to our smartphones constant glances to check for messages where updates means that we're becoming more and more used to developing a habit of being distracted our brains are less used to transitioning into deeper modes of thinking which makes it more difficult to do this when we need to some research has also shown that the constant flow of information has meant that we are losing cognitive control this means not only is our ability to control our minds reducing but also our ability to decide what we're thinking about the more you rely on your phone and an app to provide information to you the less you are able to determine what's important to focus on we are increasingly more concerned with information that's new as opposed to what's actually important so what can be done although technology is clearly affecting the way our brains work it's not necessarily a bad thing throughout history inventions have always enabled us to focus less on one thing so our time can be used somewhere else washing machines for example means that people spend far less time on cleaning clothes so these extra hours each day are taken up by work or other activities similarly so the ability to communicate and find information much faster on the internet means that we have extra mental capacity for other processes still reducing our screen time can help to keep our brains more active and malleable and it's a good idea to be aware of how much time you're spending on distractions each day so my advice to keep track of how much time you're spending a lie and you know unplug every once in a while you

did you know that animals see the world : differently from us take this pigeons actually have better Vision than humans crazy right so let's try to see the world from the animal's eyes let's start with snakes their way of seeing the world is totally different from ours they have special infrared sensitive receptors in their snouts this allows them to see the radiated heat of warm-blooded mammals now let's move on to cows these big guys don't see colors as well as humans do they can't see the color red because they don't have the necessary receptors in their retinas for that so they only perceive variations of blue and green also they don't like it when someone approaches them from behind they have a near panoramic vision and the only area they can't see is directly to the back so if you're ever sneaking up on a cow make sure you give them a heads up horses have a blind spot right in front of their faces because of their eye placement this means they can't see things directly in front of them also they don't see as many colors as we do just like cows their world is mostly made up of greens yellows and blues poor guys fish eyes have ultraviolet receptors and a more spherical lens than humans this gives them an almost 360 degree vision as for colors they're able to see all the same ones as we humans do but because light behaves differently underwater they have a hard time Discerning red in its Shades deep sea fish can easily see in the dark which is pretty cool sharks on the other hand can't distinguish colors at all but they seem much clearer under the water than we do birds have some pretty unique ways of seeing the world unlike humans birds can see ultraviolet light this helps them differentiate between males and females of their own species as well as better navigate in their surroundings also they are very good at focusing for example Falcons and Eagles can focus on a small Mouse in the field up to a distance of one mile a pigeon can see all the tiny details so if you ever need to find a crack in the pavement just ask a pigeon and by the way it has a 340 degree field of vision and generally their vision is considered twice as good as a human's there you have it I'm envious of a pigeon insects have some weird Vision patterns too flies for example have thousands of little eye receptors that work together to give them a big picture of what's going on around them and get this they see everything in slow-mo plus they can see ultraviolet light it helps them with communication bees have their own problems these guys can't tell what the color red is to them it looks like a dark blue how messed up is that now rats these little guys can't see red either but that's not the weirdest part either of their eyes moves on its own so they're seeing double like all the time it's a wonder they don't run into more walls am I right cats don't see shades of red or green but they do see brown yellow and blue hues like a boss they got a wide angle view so they can peep more stuff on the size than we can there's more though when it's pitch black outside cats become ninja-like and can see six times better than us their pupils adjust to any lighting like magic now let's talk about dogs these furry friends can't see red or orange but they do rocket blue and violet plus they can differentiate 40 Shades of Gray I mean it's not 50 but still impressive On a related note frogs are really picky eaters they won't even bother with food that isn't moving they could be surrounded by a buffet of delicious bugs but if they don't wiggle frogs won't even bat an eye and they're not the most observant creatures either if something isn't important to them like a shadow they won't even bother looking at it chameleons have eyes that can move independently of each other so they can see everything around them without even turning their heads they can even see two images at the same time like a double feature movie one in front and one behind pretty impressive right what would you do if you suddenly got 360 degree Vision like a chameleon share in the comments that's it for today so hey if you pacified your curiosity then give the video a like and share it with your friends or if you want more just click on these videos and stay on the bright side

Hidden Complications of Hypospadias Surgery: Urethral Stricture
An 8-year-old boy with a history of 3 prior operations for hypospadias elsewhere was brought to be with recurrent urinary tract infections. His Ultrasound (USG) examination revealed that he had swelling in both kidneys (hydronephrosis) with a thick urinary bladder which did not empty when he passed urine (over 50% of urine remained in the bladder)! The parents of the child said that the child’s urination was ok; however, when someone tried to place a urinary tube (catheter) for doing an MCUG test, the tube simply did not go through his neourethra (the urinary tube which was reconstructed at the time of previous hypospadias operations). He was then referred to me. We put him under sedation and on careful examination, realized that the neourethra was very narrow (called stricture or stenosis). This was responsible for all his symptoms, infections and problems. We discussed the situation with his parents and opened up his narrow urethral tube till we reached his natural, normal, original urinary tube at the base of his penis. We re-created his natural opening, and all his symptoms disappeared. His kidney swelling reduced, his bladder was emptying normally now and he had no further infections. After 6 months, he underwent a 2-stage reoperation using an Oral Mucosal graft (OMG/ mucosa from inside the oral cavity). He is doing well henceforth.
