Fate of Art
What really defines art and what about our definition makes it so?

A personal experience of mine opened my eyes on our small world, specifically about how our perception as a group of human beings that can comprehend so much can be so narrow. There is this huge wall we put up as we grow, and it wasn't always so tall and fortified.
There's a time in our youth that finds everything and anything so fascinating, but then we hear and see other people. These people have developed personalities and give us the first brick, among the many to come, that will be the starting point of our wall.
A special place in my heart has always been for stories and story telling. My love for it started before I can even remember, but my road to enlightenment started with my freshman English class, where I learned about the Greek gods and heroes.
To people today, the Greek gods are powerful and posses unique abilities. This is what a lot of people use them for. The gods are muses for many masterpieces, but that is not the case for me. They are not my muse. Their creators and story tellers are.
The details and thought that would go into developing the creation of such powerful stories and move mountains with the plot, would have been so strenuous I would imagine. To make a masterpiece that would transcend generations, I couldn't be more amazed.
Now that I have shared that personal experience you're probably wondering what on Earth does this have to do with art?
Well, I will tell you the honest truth, it has EVERYTHING to do with art.
Now before you leave in a hurry, please understand that this isn't some gimmick. This is a real lesson that people are at a loss to understand most days. It could very well be a lesson that is most often swept under the rug. I hope this keeps you curious.
Let me give you the definition of Art:
art
/ärt/
noun
1.
the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
With this definition let's take into consideration that "creative skill" is not limited to painting, drawing, or even writing. I made a tiny pillow that only a doll could use, and I consider that art. It took a small skill and a little effort to make it. This searched definition of art isn't a set in stone way of looking at it.
The story of me falling in love with the Ancient Greek creations and the effort behind the stories of the gods, was the same as someone falling in love with a Vincent Van Gogh painting in a museum of art. There a T.V. show episodes that I would consider art because of the talent and skill the actors possessed to move me to tears.
A skill and the imagination of the mind isn't limited to what we are so prone to call "art". There is a misunderstanding among people that a small accomplishment, for example, cooking an over-easy egg to perfection, is not an art, but to a professional chef, that may not be the case.
The following things should be taken into account:
Small accomplishments need validation, art is more than a painting, and that, sometimes, we experience art on a very small scale.
It's important for the soul to take what small victories you experience to heart. To feel proud of the every day life we live in. Not everyone gets to experience what you do and because our lives are so different from each other, we get art on a grand scale.
Let's take in the happiness and joys of others. Let's be friends. Join each other in the fate of our lives. Or rather the fate of our art.
Tell me, what's an art in your life?
